Yea this is the same Rangers team that won only 1 of their last 25 games in Europe, they were a big part of us falling down the rankings like we did.

During those 25 games Rangers got past Fiorentina in the Europa League semi final and competed in the final. Those games alone probably scored more points than any other club outside Celtic in the past 5 seasons combined so it's a bit harsh to attach too much blame to Rangers, especially considering the nation was ranked as high as it was mainly due to the efforts of two teams. Most of the blame has to go to the other ten clubs who consistently go out in qualifiers to teams they should probably be winning against.

Anyway's... massive congratulations to Aberdeen for advancing to the next round. Them being in Europe this season, from a purely selfish perspective, can only be good for Rangers. One, if they qualify for the groups it's a distraction from the league and two, the coefficient points could help Rangers' seeding when we qualify for next season. Hibs were unlucky but Hearts? well, that's my point, the other clubs aren't pulling their weight for the most part.

You'd still earn points by being in the next round anyway.

On a side note, Hibs fans missed out on a great away trip there!

Hibs would have earned points for their own personal club coefficient, but Scotland don't gain any coefficient points for teams making it through to that round.

The coefficients started in 1979, but Bert Kassies has worked out what the coefficients would have been before that by using the same system.

Therefore Scotland's coefficient history should be:-

1960: 5th

1961: 6th

1962: 5th

1963: 3rd

1964: 3rd

1974: 6th

1975: 9th

1976: 11th

1977: 16th

1978: 15th

1979: 17th

1980: 13th

1981: 14th

1982: 14th

Who do we think were the 3 countries above Scotland in 1984? Maybe England, Germany & Italy?

Right now tied for 100th are Leicester City & Wigan Athletic. Also notice that in 89th are Celta Vigo who have qualified for Europe this season, their first time since 2006-07.

All the team ranking does is illustrate how difficult it is for a club from a lesser league to gain any sort of traction. Aberdeen, I think most would agree, have done relatively well the last three years. Got to the Third Qualifying Round from the First. Beating a seeded team along the way each year. Yet they don't really have anything to show for it.

Exactly.

Leicester and Wigan ranking is farcical tbh, similar to Hull a couple of years back.

The Old Firm have been equally as culpable at that, so let's agree to say that none of us have been pulling our weight as much as we could.  That being said though, if we deride the clubs for losing to unseeded sides, praise must then be heaped on those that overcome their seeded opponents so Aberdeen's 3 years in a row of doing just that should be applauded.  They must be one of the only clubs in Europe to have done accomplished something like that.

Aberdeen have been sensational at pulling their weight. Inverness, Hearts, Motherwell, St Johnstone. Have all had the potential to push the coefficient to its maximum. Celtic somewhat could be slightly blamed, for finishing 4th in the UEL group but the fact is they still qualified.

Bottom line is...

Well done the Dons.

Also f**k it. SFA should sanction all red and yellow cards. We honestly should be aiming for a fair play spot tbh

I don't agree with that. If we were to get another spot at the moment it would just serve to dilute our coefficient average even further.

The former rangers last effort in Europe saw them papped out by Malmo and then Maribor in pre-qualifiers - and this was when Scots clubs starte

id argue that one of the worst managers in scottish football history was the blame of that, the same calendar year we lost to malmo and maribor we also reached the UEFA cup last 16

After Hearts'  embarrassing performance against the mighty Birkirkarra of Malta, Hibs' unlucky penalty shoot-out loss to Brondby IF, Celtic's win over Lincoln Red Imps and Aberdeen's good away win in Latvia it leaves the coefficient from 15th downward looking like this:

Pos. -  Country - 16/17 - Total - Teams Left (Bold = CL)
15.  Croatia -  1.750 - 21.875 - 4/4 - Dinamo Zagreb, Rijeka, Hajduk Split, Lokomotiva Zagreb,
16.  Romania - 0.100 - 21.150 - 4/5 - Astra , Steaua Bucarest, Pandurii Targu Jiu, Viitorul Constanta
17.  Austria - 1.875 - 19.850 - 4/4 - RB Salzburg, Rapid Wien, Austria Wien, Admira Wacker
18.  Belarus - 2.375 - 19.250 - 3/4 - BATE, Torpedo Zhodino, Dinamo Minsk
19.  Sweden - 2/250 - 19.225 - 2/4 - AIK, IFK Goteburg
20.  Norway - 1.125 - 18.075 - 1/4 - Rosenborg BK
21.  Denmark - 2.500 -18.000 - 4/4 - FC Copenhagen, SonderjyskE, Midtjylland, Brondby
22.  Poland - 1.000 - 16.875 - 2/4 - Legia Warsaw, Zaglebie Lubin
23.  Scotland - 1.875 - 16.425 - 2/4 - Celtic, Aberdeen
24.  Azerbaijan - 1.875 - 15.375 - 2/4 - Qarabag, Qabala

With AIK having a tough tie with Panithinaikos, Sweden should be down to one team by the next round. Rosenborg have to beat ---- to prolong Norway's representation in Europe, behind Scotland, Qabala will have to beat Lille to progress and Qarabag are in Czechia so they both have though ties. However, all of this could mean f**k all if Aberdeen and Celtic can't progress against Maribor and Astana.

The best realistic case scenario is that Aberdeen could win at home and lose in Slovenia and Celtic can win at Parkhead and draw in Astana. That would give Scotland an extra 0.625 and guarantees Celtic a Europa League group stage spot. It could be enough for Scotland to catch Poland but I doubt it as Legia are playing Trencin of Slovakia and should win whilst Zaglebie Lubin play Danish side SonderjyskE.

BATE Borisov have always been a decent team in recent years.

The last time they were Europe they were in the Champions League groups and lost 5 out of 6 games. (three of those being 5, 6 and 7 goals to zero.)

If that was Rangers or Celtic would you be saying the same thing?.......

The last time they were in Europe was last year and they went out on 5 points, one behind second place Roma.
