The East Stirlingshire Thread

i've just about recovered from Saturday and almost in a coherent state to post about the game so here goes.

I dont think there was much between the teams in all honestly. Was a pretty cagey game but shire took the lead through a penalty. A fair decision i think. Could count on one hand the amount fo chances in the first half. Connolly made one or two decent saves and the Shire nodded a close range header over the bar and spurned a two on one chance when a ball just had to be placed through and watson would've been one on one.

Nothing was really happening in the second half until Dalbeattie were awarded a penalty, i thought it was a definite penalty but the ref waved it away only for the linesman to flag. At that moment i couldnt really see anything other than a draw. Star could've and in all honestly probably should've had another penalty but nothing was given then with ten to go Shire got into the lead. Watson chipped the goalkeeper before being wiped out, the ball bounced off the post and all Healy had to do was tap the ball home. Instead he took a dodgy touch that almost went out of play before sliding the ball home. Pandemonium behind the goals as the celebrations ensued. Connolly then made an outstanding one on one save to keep us in the lead before David Churchill rounded the keeper and scored. I honestly thought it was no where near over but those on the sidelines, including some locals said it was over so i'll take it.

The scenes at the end of the game were brillaint. The players were serenaded off the park at the end, not a single shire fan left early and the players deserved every last chant and applause. After two years of watching some overpaid and frankly overrated dross it was good to watch a game with a shire team that really gave a f**k. They're not the best players obviously but there are some talented boys in there and they gave everything they had. Thats all you can ever ask.

The only downside of the day was having to listen to those young inbred reprobates behind the goal. Star are a great club, the locals are nice and always very hospitable but listening to the homophobic tirades coming from that group behind the goal was very dissapointing. They're getting to the age now that someone will batter them sooner rather than later and I will not have any pity for them.

That was my first Shire game in 22 months. I'm sure its been a tough time for us all but getting back to a game was great. I can't make as many anymore due to work and the cost of my drunken antics but travelling back to Dundee on Saturday night it was impossible not to have anything but sheer pride for my club. Hopefully we can carry the believe from Saturday onto the next few games.

Ease Up Shire.

Apparently Mackin now has dementia. Made the news last year so harassing the lawyers of his wife during their divorce case.

Saw Mackin a few months ago, still strutting around as if he's head pigeon despite looking decidedly worse for wear. . But then, he always has been a deluded narcissist oblivious to reality. Stalking lawyers a case in point, this after his ex wife had to bankrupt him to finally get her settlement out of him.

No dementia though. Basket case.

Pretty rubbish game in all honestly, but I will take a low-hassle win the Scottish Cup any day of week. I'm mainly concerned about potential injuries to Healy and Turner, hopefully both are back up and running soon.

Healy would be a big loss and it looked bad at the time. However, watched him after he left the field when he walked from the dugout to the changing corridor unaided in his socks, he was moving freely. So hopefully not as bad at it could have been.

Turner had a wild swing at a shot near the end of the match and then went down clutching a hamstring. Was stunned he returned to the play for 5 mins of so before he went off. So maybe it is better than what it looked ? Though Shire luck says naa.

Re the game. It had the feel of our recent league match v Vale of Leithen about it. Totally dominated but couldn't put them to bed. 1st goal came at the perfect time. Match had very little of spark about it but definitely happy with the result and only 1 booking after the deluge of yellow and red cards we have had recently (albeit that booking went to our serial booking recipient specialist).

Good to hear about Healy at least, and yeah it very much reminded me of the VoL game. Both teams are pretty stodgy but offered zero up front, and your own scoreline depends on how early you score. I am always fearful we'll up losing those games 1-0 to a single shot on goal but we have ground both of them out this season at least.

A lot of our games this year are largely forgettable. We have quality but only seem to be able to turn it on for 5/10 mins. Fort William were actually okay, I absolutely love the fact that their team was made up of the rejects that played with Gretna when we scudded them 9-1 a few years ago.

But it’s the Scottish Cup and getting through it is all that matters. I would happily have a very winnable home tie next round. We can save the big away days for the 4th round. I wouldn’t turn down an away day at Stenny though haha.

Looks like no former Gretna players are in the Fort squad Cragie??

My younger brother must be talking shite then. Odaine Demar the centre half definitely played for both teams. He was playing on Friday. I think he’s an ex Jamaica u20 international or something.

he said that all the other English players were the same ones that played for Gretna but maybe they’re different. Still a very cosmopolitan Fort William squad 😂

No arguing that point for sure! Odd if they had swapped near border Gretna (with Humphrey the attraction) for Fort 🤣

Funnily enough I remember reading on the Fort thread a while ago that they were rumoured to be bringing guys up from England to play, and they were staying in caravans the night before games. At the time I thought it was nonsense, from a skim of their Transfermarkt page a bulk of their squad appear to be English lads who've most recently played for lower league English teams. No idea who many played for Gretna, mind you, although I imagine the north of England is a regular market for them.

My mate pat was wondering how his old team mate Andy ( the Samon ) Kay was playing at the shire

Andy really has been solid since his return to Shire.  Played both in defence and midfield. Glad to have him back.

Now if he could just keep his headers down and on target when meeting those corners and crosses into the opposition boxes then I would be even more happy !

Shite result today. Any of you lads see it? Another stodgy 6th or 7th beckons.

Due to injuries and suspensions Shire were without 5 1st XI players today. The game was for the most part totally flat which little real chances being created by both teams. Watson missed a great chance for Shire in the 4th min then Broomhill had a spell of minor pressure and corners just before the break.  Throughout the game I thought that it was going to end 0-0 but I was wrong. We gave away too many free-kicks around our box and paid the penalty. A freekick from just outside the left of the box was sent in and a Shire defender got his head to it but not enough and it only went to McNab at the back post to win the game with the last touch of the game.

Overall we looked ok in defence and defensive midfield but didn't have enough spark upfront. Really missed Gibbons and especially Hamilton today.

Before the season started I would have jumped at a mid table finish this season but then was happy that we made some decent signings and became more confident of a slightly higher placing. The team is really young and there will be days like this, however, other days have been way better especially the away matches as Gala, Star and Spartans.

Thanks for that report mate, sounds like plenty to be optimistic about but maybe not this year. C’mon the Shire.

George Fraser and the Colts, your bhoys took one hell of a beating!

Get the colts teams in the fucking bin.

Been some decent results this season (and some utter pish tbf) but none of them made me as happy as Friday's.

I only saw one of the games (the win at Stirling Uni) but 3 wins and 3 clean sheets in a week over 3 difficult opponents is pretty good going. Hopefully - hopefully - we have got past that recent period of poor discipline and conceding late goals, and will be able to maintain this form into the next Scottish Cup game.
