Good move for both. He leaves a legend after the Scottish Cup win, Hibs can appoint a manager to get them out of this league as pressure would've been building on him if they didn't get a good start to the new season.

A surprisingly sane post from someone who has never done hunners of things.

Failure to win the league next season with Hibs would have seen him consigned to the history bin of poor managers. Getting out now maybe buys him a couple of seasons at English Championship level which, let's face it, makes Scotland's top flight look like a run of the mill seaside league.

He had to take it, and it will come with little in the way of expectation. Stubbs will be happy to be one among many lower middle table clubs rather than have the weight of Scottish second tier expectation on his shoulders. Rotherham will prove to be his last major gig.

For Hibs, his departure means they have dodged a bullet, and can now appoint someone who really shouldn't fail to get out of this league at the third time of asking.

That's the theory...but it's a tough gig.  Hibs have some good players but moulding a league-winning team?  No one can guarantee that.

Stock was at a low after failure to get out of Scottish second tier for second season running.

Was at a high after cup win.

Obviously thought jumping to English Championship team was the better option compared to risking a poor season with Hibs next year.

No reason to dislike the chap anymore, good luck Alan.
