RossFootball
Good luck to Tain St Duthus, seems like a long time since they've been playing, at least about 7 or 8 years or so. Would be good to see Bunilidh back in from Helmsdale, and what ever happened to Bonar Bridge? Hope Inverness coming in isn't another ground fiasco. Last thing that league needs is games not being played because they shut the bught down or the Inverness boys struggle to get a pitch to play on. I take it they have a ground agreed? HibeeJibee
Given they've been scrabbling about with 6 teams recently it at least puts them in a healthier position with more stability going forward. Equally playing 14 games is hardly a 'proper' league. EDIT: Indeed an announcement on Tain's twitter seems to imply 2 of the 5 cups have been scrapped, presumably due to number league games increasing from 10 to 14? Shetland and Lewis & Harris have played in various NCFL cups in recent years, also Clachnacuddin Reserves. John O'Groat Journal reports that those 2 cups will be registered but not drawn, and played at the end of the season. It also indicates that Nairn County may enter those, presumably on the same sort of basis as Lossiemouth. http://www.johnogroat-journal.co.uk/Sport/Football/Expansion-is-set-to-breathe-new-life-into-NCL-09062016.htm

Robert James
NCL club Thurso FC has a decent ground which is enclosed on 3 sides, in a town with a population of 8,000 (approx). This is higher than the population of either Wick and Brora, which are towns with successful Highland League clubs.

Robert James
The "point is" that if you had followed the earlier posts about ground standards in the NCL (eg Marr1 above) you would have noticed that although several NCL clubs were mentioned, Thurso FC's ground was not. Also, for geographical reasons, Shetland FC is playing its home North Caledonian cup games at Thurso's ground. New club, Inverness Athletic's ground/facilities at Farr, are good, and this club is a welcome addition to the NCL (as is the return of St Duthus). Well yes, I get that - still not sure how Thurso's population fits in there. Try quoting the posts you're replying to.
HibeeJibee
Looks like the positivity at expanding from 6 to 8 clubs was premature. Alness United have folded, though FN suggests they may play on in the cups. They've an U20s team who could fulfil ties alongside ad hoc signings and summer welfare players. This leaves the league with 7 clubs. New club Tain St Duthus had also cancelled all their pre-season friendlies due to player shortages, although they're due to play a fresh one on Saturday coming. Four games were due on the opening day of August 27th. Demise of Alness got rid of one. Two more have been cancelled as Halkirk and Orkney are unable to raise teams: claim it's due to Highland Amateur Cup Final between Wick Groats and Kirkwall, although I doubt Halkirk have many players in either of those teams. Thurso are reported to have requested their opening game is cancelled. Not clear why. Assuming that is so there will actually be no games on the opening weekend. Hopefully these are temporary problems, Alness aside, but certainly not a great start.
luke bunch
Last seasons Halkirk United team had a few Wick Groats players in it. Thurso's park is currently having drainage work done on it
Whitburn Vale
Tain St.Duthus have made a few wee boo boo's as regarding setting up freindlies, that's all. The folk now running the club have made great strides getting things all up and running plus the local community have got behind them regarding sponsorship etc

TheScarf
I played a game in the North Caley for Tain Thistle about 2006 or 2007. Think it was Bunillidh Thistle we played, and got pumped.

Highland Capital
All I could find online about Muir of Ord Rovers was that their Facebook seemed to suggest that they are operating as an U12 side now.

It's an anomaly that the NCL is affiliated to the SFA, it is realistically equivalent to the amateur leagues. I could possibly see a case if there was going to be an amalgamated structure as part of a unified pyramid in the north, but at present it would be pointless. HibeeJibee
It's also worth recalling that their SFA affiliation is very superficial. Unlike the other Senior leagues and national associations they have no seat on the Non-Professional Game Board; no vote at AGMs; presumably receive no SFA money; Hampden doesn't appoint their referees; and so on. In fact I'm not really sure there is any connection whatsoever. Unsure about registrations, tbf. It's probably just a historical hangover from the time there were large numbers of HL reserve teams and it made administrative sense to bring them under the umbrella. Without that they'd probably be Amateur or possibly Welfare FA members.
