Double Winning St Johnstone FC Thread

Recommended Posts

Do not know what all the uproar is about a commercial decision to give the Auld firm 3 sides of the ground on a trial basis.

This is merely returning to the situation as in the 1990's when East stand season ticket holders were moved to the main stand to accomodate the opposing fans of Tic and pre bankrupt Rangers.

My gripe then was that their supporters still infiltrated into the home support area.......so as long as that does not happen fine lets take the increased revenue.

Down a few hundred home fans but up over 3,000 overall per match at £30 a ticket.

Will be an extra couple of signings/contract extensions every year and increase our chances of staying up.

Will we see this though? Or will it be put away for “ a rainy day “

I for one see this as a win-win. St Johnstone get the money they desperately need to keep things running at the highest possible level

Definitely a win if we stay in the top league

and everyone else gets to laugh at what a shitey wee support St Johnstone has.

It's good to laugh at yourself sometimes, keeps you grounded.

We can all laugh at the state of Dundee FC though, on every level.

Letting Rangers/Sevco into the top flight made a lot of sense financially but the clubs turned against it because it was morally wrong.

I guess that apparent integrity was really just total bullshit for some. Even more disheartening to see some Saintees trying to spin for the club on this one.

Wut. No one has cheated anyone here - we have spare seats in a stadium and we're selling the tickets for the two matches where they will sell. It makes total sense.

That's a depressing outlook to take.

Not really - we're a small club and we've been punching above our weight for over a decade. Just look at some of the clubs languishing in the championship and league one. It's a move I don't particularly like but agree with because it will help keep us competitive.

I'm just being realistic here. The club have tried everything to increase the home support against Rangers and Celtic (and in league games generally) but nothing has worked. Allowing more away fans in - as we also do with Hearts, Hibs, the Dundee clubs, Aberdeen etc -  makes sense.

We've relied on off field activities for as long as we've been at McDiarmid Park to supplement our income. That side of the business has been doing very well (or so I hear) but the footballing side has seen a drop in crowds and therefore a drop in revenue. Saints have found a measure (a pretty simple solution, really) as a last resort to arrest that.

I can see why Saints fans - including people I usually agree with like Ali - are unhappy with this and I can see why outsiders are seeing this as a PR disaster. It is a terrible look, I don't disagree, but the money outweighs the perception here for me.

Kilmarnock fans coming on here and comparing.
They wouldnt be saying the same shit if they were struggling in league and crowds were a lot less.

100%.

Our fans have been at the club to reduce the OF allocation for over a decade. It took us getting rid of that c**t MJ to the club finally take notice.

So excuse me for knowing the feeling amongst the Killie support.

At least your mob won't need to play the OF in the league for the foreseeable.

I'm not comparing, I'm saying all this will do is make your support at these games go down even more.

In my experience that leads to folk stop buying season tickets as they won't attend to these games, they'll then start PATG, then miss games here and there, then some will stop going as they see better ways of shelling out guts of £25 every second week.

Once folk get out that habit, it's hard to get them back as that's exactly what we saw at RP.

I’m currently a season ticket holder for over 20 years and I’m thinking about not going to these two games and I’m questioning my season ticket next season now as well. I really hope saints can work out a season ticket that doesn’t include old firm games

Getting financial advice from fans of clubs who have had Admin events in the past decade, and a club who rely entirely on an ageing millionaire paying their debts off every season.

Great stuff.

We have seen a huge outlay from the club over the last couple years. Players like O'Halloran, Swanson, May, Kennedy, Wright, Davidson, Kerr, Clark, Holt etc don't come cheap. The chairman has increased the budget over the last couple of years in the face of falling league positions and attendances. Anything which helps bring in more income and eases the pressure a bit on them is to be welcomed IMO, albeit I understand why others don't.

Can't believe some St Johnstone fans are falling for trickle down economics on this one. image.png.85487fb42e0066f9cd05348a1dd93e5b.png.577c8b5667b7da1ac3dd793e6ed6bffe.png

The Socialist republic of St Johnstone will rise from the ashes of this capitalism, comrade.

And so it begins. I don't blame you in the slightest by the way.

No surprise that Saints make this decision after appointing MJ's lapdog as their new chief-exec or whatever her role is.

She's the general manager is she not? Not a chance she had anything to do with this call. I'd imagine this is all Steve Brown and Stan Harris.
