Ali McCann Paulo, Ali McCann.

I'm hearing you Tam, really impressed with what I saw of him last season and firmly in the 'if anyone can make it McCanncan camp'.

I just feel it might be early for him to be used for anything more than occasional matches and appearances off the bench. Don't think there are many (any?) teenagers Tommy's played on a regular basis during his time at Saints.

I agree, he needs a loan period, which is why we need a loanee to cover until he's ready. Craig, Alston, Spoony etc aren't the answer imo.

Real shame we can't manage our own these days, that's Montrose, east fife and now Falkirk managed decent efforts.

Sad that we are relying on away teams to show us highlights from our own home games. They are filmed for analysis so it's a mystery why somebody can't make a quick edit to post up.

I seen they've advertised for a volunteer to create highlights for the Woman's team, but nothing about the Men's team.

Always thought that Millar was going to be the difficult one to replace. We have been spoiled having two players like Morris and Millar back to back. Maybe it will a case of making do; noticed that Wright was talking about trying to play the ball out from the back more. Perhaps having two centre halfs that more comfortable on the ball will negate as much need for someone of Millar/Morris level there?

Felt a bit for Spoony on Tuesday. He's clearly trying to be the one offering for the ball and calming things down but too often touches were too heavy or he tried to play that wee bit too much. I'm not sure we can afford the game time while he learns and certainly the east stand aren't the most forgiving towards him - don't want to destroy his confidence altogether.

Yes agree.

There's also the fact that he can deliver a good cross, has a decent shot with either foot, and is capable of beating a player and opening things up round the box with that lovely wee roll over the ball with the sole of his boot he does.

I would say they are three of the big attributes he brings, and if you have him sitting in front of the back four you lose all that, and what you gain in the holding role from him is less.

Just my opinion; the coaching staff obviously see him every day and may see things differently.

Largely agree with @nelsjfc and @PauloPerth about Wotherspoon. Couple of good posts on the issue.

Willock does indeed seem set for St Mirren. I think a decent way of summing up my feelings on him/missing out would be that if we were signing two central midfielders, I'd have been more than happy for him to be the second one. We aren't signing two though...

Willock has now joined St. Mirren.

I reckon our business is done for the window and expect us to stick with Spoony and Alston in midfield. Unless anyone can tell me something I don't know...

I'd be astounded if we don't sign some form of central player. TWs made it clear all summer he wants one, and I doubt the performances of Wotherspoon and Alston beside Davidson will have changed that. Alston didn't even last a half in that role against Montrose before being taken out there.

Just my opinion on it though, hopefully TW will say something over the weekend about his plans.

What makes you think that? I don't think that Willock signing for St. Mirren has any bearing on whether or not we're signing a central midfielder. Tommy has said that he's looking for a central midfielder and I see no reason to believe he'll suddenly change his mind. As others have said, Willock is a fine footballer but perhaps not the type of midfielder we're crying out for.

Willock is good but I wouldn’t swap any of the outfield signings for him and I wouldn’t swap any new potential holding midfielder for him either.

Right now Willock would be coming in and competing with Alston, Wotherspoon, Scougall, Kennedy, Wright and McClean for one of the 3 attacking midfielder places. He’d be another one who might be passable in the deep role occasionally but not consistently which is really what the team is screaming out for. Craig (or maybe McCann) is currently our best option to play beside Davidson in the deeper role IMO and that’s a really glaring weakness that needs addressed with a specialist in that position.

That's a hell of a one-sided editing job!

I think everyone knows what we need and who realistically out of our current squad can play there, those options aren't ideal. Tommy wants another player in but it's up to Wee Broon to produce, will he do it? I have my doubts, especially after getting Tommys other first choice targets. It's been a good window so far but I've a wee nagging feeling we may just go with what we have.
