Double Winning St Johnstone FC Thread

Agree with HSF, just wrote the same on the cup draw thread.

Give them the minimum (north stand and north end of Main Stand).

Its all bonus income anyway, and a bit of tv money, so we don’t need to milk it as much.

Give them the 2700 tickets and get Tommy leading a campaign to get at least that number of Saints fans at the game, like he did with the 15k cup final target.  A half Saints crowd in 5500 would be brilliant against Celtic, far better than 7000 of them.

Its the quarter final of the Scottish Cup, if we somehow get through we’d have a great chance of getting to a final.

I’ve no issue with us doing it for the league matches by the way, completely understand the thinking financially.

Come on Saints, do the right thing.  If we do restrict them, Saints fans will bring more of this..

I’ll end my Old Firm game boycott if Saints - 1. Lower the gate price and 2. Don’t give Celtic 3 stands.

As others have said, this is a free hit and the choice is clear - milk fans of their money and make it a Celtic fan hell hole while pathetically attempting to cover it up as a call to arms to create a “partisan atmosphere”

Or

You give Celtic the bare minimum, actually put out a genuine call to arms to the people of Perth to cheer the club on to the semi final, set a gate price of no more than 20 quid and enjoy the TV money.

Choice is theirs.

Depends what Peter Lawell says regarding ticket prices. If he knows that saints are gonna give Celtic very few, he’ll play hardball and drove the ticket price up.

Won’t Celtic get a say on the gate price?

If the clubs dont agree it gets set to £20 for adults I think.

Would it not make sense to get as much financial income as possible. I think what saints should do is give Celtic the south stand and half of the main. With saints getting the Ormond and half of the main. That way saints could recreate the 'away day' atmosphere in the Ormond with 1000 or so standing, with the half of the main almost full. Obviously Celtic will sell out practically any allocation you give them so early doors saints should try and fill the South stand and half of the main with Celtic fans. And push hard to sell out the saints allocation. You could then see how many more saints fans could potentially go and locate them in part of the east and then any remaining seats should go to Celtic so that the stadium sells out!

Hopefully around 3500 -4000 saints fans can turn out with the remainder being Celtic fans.

You cant split the Main, or East, down the middle. It just wouldnt work in terms of segregation, never mind the chaos that happens when Saints fans get forcibly shoved back into their seats by stewards while Celtic fans 5 seats away are allowed to stand for the full game.

Welcome Rory.

The most important thing is giving ourselves the best chance of getting through. And for me that means giving them the minimum amount of tickets.  Can understand it in league games for now, but let's try and make this one more of an even split. We'd make far more money from a semi final and final!

We'll also be getting tv money for this one.

Like RG says, splitting east and main stands would be a nightmare. If you were giving each set of fans half the East and half the Main, surely it would make more sense to give one whole stand to each set of fans, rather than two halves of different stands?!

Like your optimism for that number of Saints fans, haven't seen that number since the  last European night. I'd be happy if we got near 2500-3000 Saints fans, equal to the allocation we give Celtic, and equates to roughly most season ticket holders bringing a guest Saints fan along.

Folk are being unreasonable here. Unless the board can be convinced that we won't get a repeat of the League Cup quarter-final from last season (with little over 1,000 home fans) then they are left with little choice.

Good bank balance or not, you can't turn down the cash from an extra 5,000 paying fans.

Point the finger of blame at the fans that will spend a whack going to Ayr yesterday but won't support our club at home, not the board.

Very good points but couldn’t the board use this as a chance, perhaps last chance, to try to get the Saints fans back on board for home games?

A true test of what your board think of the fans, here.

Would you blame them if they decided to hand the stadium to Celtic again? Our home support is pathetic.

Hearts says we should give them the minimum, which I think could be the North Stand alone. The club say the 3 stands is an experiment, and gave Celtic fans the chance to prove they could sell out 3 stands and make it financially worthwhile. A cup game would be the perfect chance to give the home fans the chance to prove they could make up some of the shortfall if we give them just the one. Added incentive that if we win, theres a genuine chance of a trophy.

Head says the home support wouldnt turn out regardless, and with a major rebuild this Summer looking likely every penny is going to be vital. We still aren't safe from relegation, so making money comes into focus even more.

Its an extra though, all of it will be income over and above budgets. It'll be over £50k won't it with the tv money plus half of a 5000 gate?

Would just like to see a concerted effort by the club, not just an announcement that ST holders get a guest in for £10 and then hope that does the job, but every day the manager pushing it and challenging the Saints support to come along for this one game.  We might get more Saints fans if they know there will be less OF fans, and even 2500 Saints fans would be a success compared to recent times.

You're probably right of course, we could try it but end up with just the usual 1000 or so, but I'm with Bose here, let's give it a try this once.

I would be all over it with something like, this is Saints fans last chance to ensure we keep the stadium as a home stadium for these games. Maybe a bit aggressive but need to give something a go.
