Decent signing.

Ralston signed as cover and heard from united fans he’s good enough.

Holt needs to hit the ground running though.

Absolute scenes if we announce 1 more though.

Left back probably all we’ll get which leaves us a centre back and possibly a quality right back short of a really decent squad.

There’s been plenty of this “good squad” chat since pre season. With May and Holt in and Wright back it’s now incumbent on them to start living up to that.

Next two games aren’t ideal right enough...

That’s a positive signing. Although I thought the same about Goss, so will wait and see.

Holt feels less of a gamble than Goss was.

Holts profile feels like exactly the type of signing we should be making, along with May. Mid-20s but plenty of experience in this division, transfermarkt has Holt having 98 Premiership games under his belt.

Rangers fans talking about how hard working he is, we need some legs in the middle of the park, and he seems to be technically impressive too.

Even if he fails I think this is a signing we all agree with.

TBF McLean is well down the pecking order now.

Davidson, Holt, Craig, McCann all easily ahead of him. An argument Wotherspoon goes in there too, and Callachan is still hanging about.

He'll walk into a top flight Northern Irish side after his Linfield loan last season.

So we line up how?

                    Clark

Ralston  Kerr  Gordon  Tanser

Wright  Holt Davidson Kennedy

                    MOH

                    May

Something like that?

That's a decent team with a good bench. Agree they need to step up but that defence is worryingly young.

edit - and virtually no defensive depth.

edit 2 - FFS just realised I wrote Clarke again, risking the Wrath of Tam

Yup, a lot of pressure on Ralston, Holt and May to hit the ground running.

Then again, none of us have any real hopes for the Aberdeen/Rangers game, so they've nothing to lose as they settle in.

Defence aside, that's the best-looking Saints team I can recall. Unless we bring in a couple of impressive reinforcements at the back, our gameplan must surely be to go for the jugular and hope we score more goals than the opposition. If we approach matches too conservatively, we could be in a spot of bother.

Not sure what to make of the McClean departure? An indication we haven't managed to shift a more obvious candidate and someone had to be cut from the squad before Holt could sign, or something that has been on the manager's mind?

I liked him for what he was, a young guy making his way in the game but maybe the impact on McCann gave TW second thoughts on him?

Think everyone will be pleased with Holt but then, as said, the same was true of Scougall and Goss in the centre of the park. Again as said though, he knows this league better. Would have been nice to have him in before the last day but better late than never.
