For those with plenty time on their hands you could always sit through ceefax scrolling through 32 pages of sport, then when you finally see the wee paragraph about Saints, it's at the bottom of the page and you don't have time to read it all before it moves back round to page one... In pre-PA arse licking days it used to be the Evening Tele that brought the excitement.
