Double Winning St Johnstone FC Thread

The best hope is we stay up, sack Davidson, and manage to loan all the (midfield) dross signed by him to Championship teams, or whoever will take them. Obviously we'll need to suck it up on wages and whilst I would never normally encourage such a thing, make them train with the youths to try and force them out if they aren't keen. We owe them nothing.

Any chance they've both got relegation release clauses? 🤞

Completely ridiculous we paid money for MacPherson, wtf does Callum see that we don't?

MacPherson is a better footballer than McCann, remember?

He's almost definitely extending either Brysons or Butterfields contract too IMO.

He definitely thought there was a rough diamond there he could coach to brilliance.

Probably just watched YouTube clips of the hopeless wee fanny.

Scary to think our 22/23 season could already be decided, goalkeepers generally play a decent part in your final position and with a poorer keeper than Clark this season we'd be 12th.

The manager should already know who he wants to replace him and have the move done or in the works, although I live in fear of the "El Paz!" contract extension announcement, followed by 4 months of hoping for someone else only to be disappointed.

We have been fortunate to replace Hladky with Alnwick, and now Carson replacing him on paper should be a safe pair of hands for a year or two.

Way too many dodgy keepers kicking about and as you say, the difference between a good one and even just an average one could cost you relegation.

Tbf I could half see why he'd have thought MacPherson had potential, as he clearly has some ability on the ball. Based on this season though he clearly lacks something mentally in terms of playing the game and that shouldve been noticed before he signed on loan, never mind before we horsed a fee and multi-year deal down his throat. He's in his mid-20s and have ~100 appearances at this level, he's not some youngster anymore.

We've had some luck too, I think. Main, Enckleman, Mannus, Clark is a decent go at things, Graeme Smith I can't remember a huge amount of but I'd have him above Parish from what I do remember.

It seems a vital position at this level since games are generally so tight, especially if you lack a regular goalscorer. If you have both you'll finish top half, one and you'll be in mid table, and neither sees you relegated, IMO.

Your point on Macpherson was why I was willing to give him the chance, and I think it was the Dundee match where I saw what he meant, but I still didn’t think it could be justified. I just gave up on him altogether and want to see him gone as soon as.

There's a lot of people at our club who make no effort to be likeable or bond with the support, and to me MacPherson is one.

I could probably deal with him as a back up CM to play when the good players were out if he had some sort of decent personality, but to me he reeks of Adam Morgan. Probably spends half of training sessions attempting 40 yard free kicks then struts about pigeon chested when 1 hits the bar.

I make it that we already have 24 players signed up for next season, albeit some are youngsters. Twenty. Four.

The midfield is a huge concern already. The manager has lumbered us with so much shite that there isn’t really any wiggle room to improve, unless we end up with similar squad numbers to what we’ve ended this season with.  I’ll not go into the individuals but some of those players being here for another 2 years makes me want to greet.

4 signed strikers and Michael O’Halloran, 2 of whom never score, another two the manager doesn’t trust… and Michael O’Halloran. I’d be throwing Ciftci and Middleton’s wages - or a decent amount of them at least - to try and retain Hendry as that’s pretty grim otherwise too.

defence looks ok, desperately need a right wing back (if we’re persisting with this manager and therefore system) and probably more cover in the middle as well.

Goalies… we need better than Parish + kids. Parish don’t got no arms and the young lads are the future, but don’t think they’re the present.

in terms of the out of contract players, only ones I’d even entertain keeping are Clark, Rooney, Mccart, Davidson and Hendry. Liam leaves with his head held high and Bryson contributed towards the end of last season. The likes of Ciftci shouldn’t even be reporting for training at this point. He clearly can’t be arsed so get him out of the changing room.

most depressingly of all,

Callum Davidson - 2025.

what an absolute mess.

Remember when you could've had McPherson for free on a PCA, but you told us you wanted him permanently so we recalled him and made you pay actual money for him? LOL, good times. Great bants.

Don’t, please

You guys were playing chess, Davidson was playing snakes and ladders. If anything sums up just how poor his judgement is, that’s it.

Were you not getting compensation regardless?
