Devlin or Taylor on loan for the season and one other in permanent and I’d seriously consider it. What amount would we be realistically looking for? I genuinely have no idea what would be offered/accepted

Hard to gauge, really. Looking at the first half of the season, his three goals have all been in games we've drawn, and hes also set up winners against Hamilton and Hearts.

That's, in a sense, 7 points hes been worth to us.

Remove that from our league total, and we'd be bottom.

How much does relegation cost us?

The precedent for the fee required was set when Middlesbrough bought Lee Miller from Aberdeen when he only had 6 months on his deal.

So either that or a loan and permanent of Saints' choosing. Otherwise we'll just keep our player until the summer, thanks.

The Dons will not be offering much - lucky if the cash offer gets near £100k.

Two players for six months and freeing up Kennedy's salary to go and get another player is probably a good option for Saints

You think letting out best player and most creative attacking threat go for 2 loans of let’s face it crap back up players, is a good option?

Yeah if that’s on offer he won’t be going anywhere this window.

It isn’t really. We can only sign 1 player on loan from Aberdeen for a start. If we do loan a player, it has to be someone decent like Devlin and not someone who either isn’t first team ready or who is shite.

£100k now but relegated will mean we’ll lose a lot of money.  we’ll be lessening our chances of staying up by letting our best attacking player go for basically nothing. It would be a stupid deal from our perspective.

Given the summer window, I wouldn’t be shocked if it happened. It shouldn’t obviously.

You're quite right, frankly we should be thankful Aberdeen are offering us anything for Kennedy.

Met a lanky, dirty b*****d of a St Johnstone mifielder in the pub earlier. Massive ***. Apparently yous have been in contact regarding Christophe Berra.
I'd be happy with him. Proper experienced back up/starter when needed. Gordon and Kerr would learn lots from him as he is a leader/voice on the pitch etc.
A bit like the duberry signing.
If it was a choice of him or Duffy/Anderson/Vihmann then it's a no brainer.
You don't play nearly 50 times for Scotland and hundreds of games at a decent level down south being crap.

This version of Berra couldnt lace our version of Duberrys boots.

FWIW, longer this window goes on, the more a move for Berra makes sense.

Have a wee checkbox of what we need?

Experienced CB. Check.

Free to move. Check.

Happy to play a bit part role as Gordon/Kerr looks promising. Probably.

Capable of doing the job we need (header balls and tell Kerr where to be). Highly likely.

It wouldnt be great but the January window seems like a fucking nightmare, and Berra would be a huge upgrade on Vihmann or Wallace fucking Duffy. Better him than nothing, and time is a ticking.

Ideally we'd be signing a centre back who could actually run though.

All I mean in terms of duberry comparison was he was a player coming to end of his career with lots of experience to help steady our defence at centre back position which was shipping goals for fun with Anderson and Gartland etc.
He was able to impart his experience on these players when training and playing. Only 34 years old also so if the worse happens this season and we do down, wouldn't be a bad option for the championship.

Take out the Scotland reference and I agree.

My biggest worry is Berra might contribute almost nothing on the pitch, but just now will be earning more than anyone in our squad, so how does that get balanced out?

If he takes an 18 month deal we could be stuck paying our 3rd choice defender a very decent wage.
