What about a choice of Ash Taylor, Ryan Sweeney or Robbie Deas?

Yes I know what you're getting at and you're starting to to go down that despairing hole that you do when things start to snowball.

Until anything is confirmed there's no point in scaremongering. I think all reasonable saints fans know that the last 18 months shitshow are going to absolutely impact us this season and most likely next as we try and reduce our budget, which may mean we're looking in the bargain basement bucket at times for squad filling positions. It's no inspiring of course it's not, but you can only piss with the cock you're given and we'll just need to make the most out of a bad situation.

If we're currently being priced out of the market for the likes of Deas then fine.

As long as we don't go down the route of then settling for the likes of Ash Taylor or similar journeyman.

Go the other route.  Younger players released from down south who've something to prove. Like MOH etc. They're likely to be hungry and keen to prove what they can do. It worked well for us in the past.

Saints couldn’t match what Killie offered.

See this to me is absolutely fine. I'll never blame players for taking more money elsewhere. We all know the likes of St Mirren, County, Killie will offer bigger wages than us (in some cases considerably) and we just need to accept it and move on. Given the last few seasons, it's imperative that we get back to having a clear wage structure and budget moving forward.

Id be happy with this. Phillips a sort of blueprint of sorts.

Raw, needs developed, inconsistent, but upside is massive.

As it stands im still convinced we're in for another relegation battle, and im not sure many clubs survive 3 in a row of those, so trying to build something and rediscover what we've lost feels a better path to failure than another season trying to plug holes short term in a desperate attempt to stay afloat.

Remember the serial blocker sjfcnews?

He's now paying for a blue tick on Twitter 😂😂😂

Has done for some time too. Definitely one of the more peculiar fan run accounts we have

Who would be best to email at Saints to urge them not to vote in favour of the conference league? Looking to get my tuppence worth in ahead of the vote tomorrow.

Not happening now. Hopefully the club confirms what their stance was.

Would it be wrong to suggest that we just be grateful that we’ve got nearly three months of transfer window to go and plenty of time to play with? We’ve got the makings of a team to get us through the group stage of the league cup even without signings.
Let’s just be positive and thankful that we’re not Dundee

Absolutely no panic there's a whole summer to go yet.

Depends which way you look at it regarding the League Cup without signings. As it stands we don't really have any right backs or fit left backs. On top of that it's the same squad that failed to get out of the group this season. Although I'd be very unhappy if we didn't this time round.

Because of the departures on the list, I’ve not really wanted to post this. A week of mourning is enough though,  so here’s our current state of affairs (I think)

Goalkeepers

Ross Sinclair - 2024

Jack Wills - 2024

Defenders/wing backs

Ryan McGowan - 2024

Liam Gordon - 2024

Andy Considine- 2024

Callum Booth - 2024

Tony Gallacher - 2024

Midfielders/wingers

Drey Wright - 2024

Max Kucheriavyi - 2025

Daniel Phillips - 2024

Cammy McPherson - 2024

Ali Crawford -2024

Cammy Ballantyne - 2024

Alex Ferguson - 2025

Graham Carey - 2024

Attackers

Stevie May - 2025

Nicky Clark - 2025

Theo Bair - 2024 - available for transfer

Taylor Steven - 2024

Loans ended

Remi Matthews

Alex Mitchell

Adam Montgomery

Connor McLennan

Zak Rudden

Released/retired

Bobby Dailly

David Wotherspoon

Spencer Moreland

William Sandford

Murray Davidson

Charlie Gilmour

Michael O’Halloran

Jamie Murphy

Eetu Vertainen

Out of contract

Elliot Parish

James Brown

Melker Hallberg

Chris Kane

so 9 released, 4 still out of contract who may still leave, 5 loans ended and we still have 19 players signed up, not including some of the young lads who have just extended their deals, like Hepburn,  McKinstry and Parker. Admittedly some of the released players we saw nothing of or were youngsters anyway.

It really doesn’t feel right seeing a squad list without Murray Davidson and David Wotherspoon on it, the latter in particular feels like he should still be there.

Some green shoots on that list and indeed some players to be excited about, but there are a lot of gaping holes to fill, a lot of (expensive) dead wood. A big job for Maclean over the next few windows as he tries to work us away from Callum Davidson’s bloated, overpaid mess of a squad.
