Double Winning St Johnstone FC Thread

Recommended Posts

Probably from an outside in view, fans anger might seem a bit strange giving last season and that we probably were due a poor season eventually, possibly a hangover of doers from last year, but it's the absolute gutless displays and inevitability of how the games pan out that means I think we will struggle vs anyone in the playoff.

If we can all predict how the team will be set out and what changes will happen and when, then sure as hell every other manager has. Dick Campbell, Ian McCall and Billy Dodds have all been round the game long enough to be well aware what to expect from saints.

Assuming we even make the playoffs and Dundee doing pull a couple of wins out of the bag, our best hope is that whichever of the 3 wins through, runs out of legs.

Zander Clark to Dundee United on a PCA.

Meh.

Not seen enough of this season's form  consistently to be bothered much when he goes.

We'd be bottom if it weren't for Clark, his performance in the win at Tannadice a stand out. Was away to ask if you could imagine what it would've been like if Parish was first choice, but we'll probably experience that next season.

Losing him to United feels very on brand though, wouldn't be shocked if Clark, McCart and Hendry all end up at other Premiership sides next season.

At least we're not a sacking club though, that's what really matters.

You've been reading social media as well then!

You don't produce young academy players to lose them to Dundee United on a free but this is entirely self-inflicted and Zander Clark isn't one that has let us down this season.

He doesn't want to be playing in the Championship and that's fair enough. But from his point of view, he'll need to ensure he maintains the sort of form produced this season as no other manager or club will be as loyal to him as Saints were between the summer of 2019 and a year ago.

Club either need to take a leap with Ross Sinclair or find a new number one. Nothing reeks of Davidson more than Parish as first choice though.

You’re in a catch 22, people will moan about losing him on a free as we didn’t look to extend his deal last season. Equally, his form was awful last year and didn’t warrant a new deal, let alone one for more money. He’s replaceable and we’ve gotten 5/6 good seasons out of him, which is what you hope for. Given he’s now almost 30, chances of ever getting a fee were slim, so I’m maybe not as annoyed as some of he does leave. If he had more ambition he’d be away down south, but equally United are clearly throwing money at players again.

As always, my main frustration will be how we replace him.

It'll be Parish or some kid on loan from down South because Davidson is the only person on the planet who hasn't seen this coming so hasn't actually planned for it, then we'll get told its all Steve Brown's fault for not forcing Clark to sign a new deal and Davidson is yet again suffering from the club punting key players against his will.

We always run the risk of losing out on PCAs because we don't generally offer longish contracts. This can help us out of course if a player is hopeless or injury prone so we're not saddled with them too long.

Unfortunately it comes back to bite you when they hit a bit of form.

Of course the chairman might just cave anyway like the McCann transfer so what's the fucking point?

Given recent long contracts include Crawford, Macpherson, May and MOH we might need to go back to our old ways tbh.

Good luck to Zander if that deal is confirmed. He’ll likely more than double his wages, and he’ll feel it’ll give him a better chance of regular involvement in the international set up.

Been a great servant to the club and I don’t think anyone can begrudge him a move at 29 years old. Maybe a couple of spells of poor form, but overall he’s been a really good keeper at this level.  Any youth academy graduate that breaks through and becomes a first team regular right through to that age has been a big success.

Definitely need a new number one. I’ve accepted Parish as cover, as it’s probably not realistic to expect too much quality in that area who’s prepared to sit on the bench every week, but he’s not good enough to be our starting goalkeeper every week.

Currently reading that we shouldn't sack Davidson because Man U didn't sack Alex Ferguson 30 years ago.

That was a poor post. Comparing CD/SJ to AF/MU. The guy castigates anyone who says anything critical about CD. He scolds them for not accepting his point of view whilst rejecting theirs. What a weirdo. On the other hand, maybe he’s a wum. I always thought supersaint was an embarrassment. Sammy the Tammy was the goat.

It's a pish mindset to take from some fans. Just because we were crap 40 odd years ago, doesn't mean we cannot have a moan about how rubbish we are at the moment. Yes, we have been in much worse places, but times have changed. Can bet the fans (in fact I know they did) back then moaned about how poor the side was compared to the 70's. Should they not have been  allowed to. Equally, if in say 20 years, we are back down there and we get on a good cup run, should we not celebrate as 'it's not as good as the golden days'?

Fans rightfully got more than say fans of other teams with the cup wins because we were rubbish for long periods, but does that mean younger fans had less right to celebrate? No.
