Double Winning St Johnstone FC Thread

Cleary is right sided is he not? Booth can’t be considered a viable left sided centre back option, regardless of how poor McCart has been. Doesn’t read like Gallacher can play there either.

I read an article with David McMillan at the weekend and he said he was left sided.

Quote

“Dan is one of the best ball-playing centre halves I have played with,” said the 33-year-old.

“He is very good at taking it out from the back and with St Johnstone playing a back-three he will be well suited to that.

“His best games have come when he’s left of the three and he can take the ball, carry it forward and get the team up the pitch.

“As a striker that’s something you don’t like playing against because you have to chase back.

Cleary has played LCB and RCB in a back three for Dundalk. Dundalk played him LCB and used his running into the centre of the park quite well in Europe. He mostly played RCB in a back four though.

What makes it worse is said da fucked off to support another Scottish side just after this and has since crawled back...

Gallacher on paper is a decent signing, now can we stop signing defenders and focus on players who thrive in the creation of chances and taking those chances.

Gallacher was behind Beck and Norris in Liverpool's U23 squad. He needed a move to progress his career.

I'd seen him as a possible Jags loan signing when we needed cover at LB but McCall then brought in Hendrie.

I assume that you've got him on a free transfer and won't be paying compensation to Liverpool..

Tam talking shite, years back in here he thought I was S MC K from Muirton 😂

He got a lifetime ban from Muirton Park and did go and see Hibs for a while.

As for supporting another team GTF

He was definitely more of an attacking full back though. He regularly got roasted as L of a 4. Houston had faith in him as his team began a steep decline, but it was a tough watch sometimes as teams looked to target him.

This sounds ideal as he’ll be coming in to play wing back. Pretty happy with this, good medium term option signed for an important position with the safety net that is Booth who’s there if TG isn’t quite ready to step straight in to the first team. We’ve suffered all season from the fact Booth isn’t dynamic or pacy enough to offer a threat from the left.

Still need a ball-winning CM and a striker as a bare minimum to give us a chance of staying up. Would also like another forward ideally and a RWB (if we brought latter in Brown could be groomed as our 4th choice CB, letting us move on Muller and Ambrose who aren’t here long term).

Shaw - Rudden - Walker - ?

Hopefully some more names coming out the hat as a complete surprise like Gallacher was in the next few weeks.

Will be a good signing if he ever gets on the pitch but Booth seems to be undroppable despite being solid 2*.

Maybe the difference will be that Gallagher is signed while Devine was just on loan

I'm just coming back in here with the first "It's Gallacher, not Gallagher".

Pedantic perhaps, but correct.

Oh there will be surprises, don't you worry about that.

Not to say they'll all be good surprises though.

Yes, seems like a good signing for that position if he's come on as he should have. As Bairnardo said, he was our star youngster once Fulton, McGrandles et al had moved on. Always composed and played intelligently.

He was not ready at all for the 1st team though. I remember a SC defeat at Cappielow being horrendous.

I'm just off to weep a bit after being reminded of Luke Leahy and that glorious 15/16 team we had.

One of the bigger problems we had this season was that there was simply not overlap threat on the left hand side at all, so if they could shut down the diagonal to Rooney/MOH then we really did look clueless.

If Gallacher can at least offer a threat that needs to be dealt with then other teams have to defend the whole pitch - It opens up space through the middle, hopefully counters the 2 in midfield being dominated with absolute ease every time and it means it opens up the switch to either side too, I'm quite hopeful on this one.

Regardless of how the transfers work out, as you can never guarantee success, it was important the club were active early in the window.

The players coming in on long deals have clearly been planned for and targeted before the window opened. That increases your chance of making good signings IMO.
