Double Winning St Johnstone FC Thread

f**k knows what they would be like if they followed us in the late 70,s early 80,s

There have been far poorer players signed for St Johnstone in that time. But I'd struggle to name a more perverse contract offer: Crawford was here effectively on trial and showed little aptitude, little endeavour and zero ability to fit into the system that the manager is persevering with. Yet we sign him on a two-and-a-half-year deal?

Don't think fans are angry about it – but entitled to be really worried about the judgement that's being displayed.

We've signed loads of average players over the years, of course we have. Some turn out better than expected., others worse. Rarely have we signed a player though that leads you to fundamentally question the competence of the manager and the direction the club is going in as this one does. The initial signing was understandable at the time, Crawford has a pedigree in the league, we needed players etc, it was arguably worth having a look at him on a short term deal. It's been clear for some time that it's not worked, the manager not seeing that, or refusing to see it, is massively concerning. We've no time to muck about here, we are going down with a whimper as it stands. Being somewhat upset about that after the position we ended last season is perfectly reasonable, regardless of whether we we shite in the 80s.

Looks like Liam Shaw is away to be announced.

I think it might be Devine's replacement, but we'll see.

Edit: and there it is. Tony Gallacher has signed until 2024.

Obviously a little bit of an unknown but Tony Gallagher is the type of singing that at least shows a little bit of forward planning.

Good prospect at Falkirk, a good age, Scottish, will be well coached at Liverpool and had a fairly successful spell in the MLS with favourable reports. He was also very close to signing for Sunderland in the summer.

Gallagher and Cleary certainly more positive signings than the shit-show recruitment in the midfield area.

From what I remember he was a decent young player, who we were all astounded got a move to Liverpool. Was never ever going to break through there, but I suppose these clubs buy such s volume of youngsters they only need a small % to succeed.

He was definitely more of an attacking full back though. He regularly got roasted as L of a 4. Houston had faith in him as his team began a steep decline, but it was a tough watch sometimes as teams looked to target him.

Wish him well and will look out with interest to see how he does.

It says a lot for how well thought of he was that his disastrous spell in out first time, not his fault he clearly wasn't ready, that he still got his move to Liverpool. He was raved about at all levels at Falkirk until he hit the first team after losing Leahy and not replacing him as we should have.

Wouldn't be disappointed to see McCart head off now, we are well covered in the left side of defence between Cleary, Booth and Gallacher.

If we can convince Hibs to pay a little bit of money for him then even better.

The meek ‘oh well it was worse in the 70s/80s’ is absolute peak Saints Da patter. Horrendous stuff.

What makes it worse is said da fucked off to support another Scottish side just after this and has since crawled back...

Gallacher on paper is a decent signing, now can we stop signing defenders and focus on players who thrive in the creation of chances and taking those chances.

Even with Booth and Gallacher, we’d be a centre half short if McCart left.

Cleary is right sided is he not? Booth can’t be considered a viable left sided centre back option, regardless of how poor McCart has been. Doesn’t read like Gallacher can play there either.
