Presuming it’s at a neutral venue, I assume it’ll be behind closed doors as well?

UEFA banned away fans didn't they? Can't see them allowing fans at a neutral venue sadly.

I've moaned about our transfer "strategy" for years, so good to see we've got an experienced, highly qualified, person in to oversee that all.

Be interesting looking back in 2/3 years and see what size of a difference it makes, and if its obvious there's been a shift.

Aye. Thought that might be the case. Fortunate we’re guaranteed at least two ties, I guess…

Not a chance we forfeit it.
Could the tie be played in Gibraltar? That would be the cheapest option possibly?

You don't think so? Don't expect we will because of the backlash, but it must be an appealing option for the board.  The hassle of booking a neutral venue at short notice, accommodation and travel arrangements and costs, all without a large home crowd to offset it. Plus losing out on that £50k payment.

A game the board probably expect us to lose anyway, the idea of binning it and going straight to the conference league play off must have crossed their minds.

UEFA really don't mind shafting smaller clubs at all.

If we go for a neutral venue, would be better going for somewhere in Northern Europe surely?  Less travel time for us, more for them, and more importantly the temperature would be far more bearable for our players.  Lets go for Norway or the Faroes!

Avoiding playing in Turkey at the height of summer might be no bad thing purely from the players point of view.

I don’t think the board would be forgiven by some fans if they forfeited the match.

Could we potentially approach some of the clubs we’ve played previously?

eskisehirspor would welcome us back!

Republic of Ireland might be an option.

Could be a goer..

From 19 July:

  • All travellers to Ireland will need to fill out a Passenger Locator Form. Failure to complete this form is an offence
  • No travel-related testing or quarantine will be necessary for travellers from Great Britain with valid proof of full vaccination
  • If you do not have valid proof of vaccination and are travelling from Great Britain you will need to:

    • present evidence of a negative RT-PCR test result within 72 hours prior to arrival into the country

    • self-quarantine

    • undergo post-arrival testing

Guidance can change at short notice so you should check Irish Government advice before you travel

Actually, it’s not a bad shout. This is from Ireland’s government website on travel to Turkey.

Travel from Ireland to Turkey

Passengers travelling from Ireland to Turkey who can provide evidence from the relevant authorities that they have been vaccinated at least 14 days prior to arriving in Turkey and/or have had COVID-19 within the last 6 months (the six month period starts from the 28th day after the first positive PCR test result) will not be asked to present a negative PCR test report before entry and will not be required to quarantine.

Passengers travelling from Ireland to Turkey who do not provide such evidence will be required to present a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours or a negative rapid antigen test report taken within 48 hours.

All passengers are required to complete and present the online ‘Turkey Entrance Form’ prior to travel: https://register.health.gov.tr/Transit passengers and Children under 6 are exempt from these requirements.

UEFA can probably eject us from Conference League if we simply forfeit Galatasaray tie!

Will be interesting on neutral venues. Do clubs try and agree to cut down travelling for both sides in both legs or try to gain an advantage?

To be honest, flying out of Istanbul for them is much easier than getting out of Plague Island for us and if we do ask them to travel to Ireland, do they just take their home leg to the surface of the sun like temperatures of Armenia or somewhere?

Apart from the fact its not just us who cannot play at home i can hardly see Galatasasay agreeing to play 2 games where they travel 5 hours each way and we travel 1

It will probably be being closed doors somewhere in central Europe.

UEFA do have standby venues and if the clubs dont agree they will pick one.

The Turks hate the Armenians but I can see them playing there home leg in Baku Azerbaijan.

When this happened last year with Arsenal and Benfica both games were played behind closed doors in the same stadium.

The best decision would be both clubs agreeing to a location central for the 2 legs.

Switzerland would be a fairly easy venue for both sides to reach. As would Czechia, Slovakia, Poland, Germany or Croatia.

Apparently about 35 miles south of Prague is the halfway location.

If it's a big European city, getting accommodation for a party of 30 in peak tourist season might not be straightforward.

The more you think about it the bigger the hassle for the clubs. Will Saints have to arrange local medical staff to take care of all the covid testing at the stadium and overseeing protocols etc?
