Ayr United, What now 2016/17

Recommended Posts

Agreed, 90 minutes of honest, hard endeavour should be an absolute minimum, a given at our club. It's the only way we can hope to bridge any gap in quality.

Laziness is a tough badge to pin on any professional footballer but I've no doubt that several are hiding. Only natural given the lack of confidence around the place. McCall needs to find the words, the inspiration and then the players need to find their bollocks.

Could be worse. You could see Ryan Stevenson still in your team.

Ryan Stevenson is infinitely superior to Paul Cairney. At the very least we wouldn't have waited 88 minutes to see a shot on goal if he was in our midfield. That being said, Cairney was responsible for the only slightly heartening moment of Saturday's game when he actually made a committed-looking challenge. The fact that that challenge was the only thing we had to cheer speaks volumes about the absolute ineptitude of that performance.

It should be the minimum at absolutely any club tbh

At least Stevenson is an Ayr fan, he would give a hell of a lot more effort for the club than journeyman Cairney, who seems to be on a mission to play for every club in Scotland before he's 35.

What nonsense. Cairney is a far better player than Stevenson at the moment. Cairney has had a poor few weeks but was excellent for several before that.

At least Cairney puts his head up and looks for a pass, is downfall is there is zero movement whatsoever.

How easily some of Stevo's performances last season have been forgotten.

Nonsense? I'm sorry but Paul Cairney 'looking for a pass' is what caused St Mirren's opener on Saturday, and was by no means an isolated incident. He may be a decent player when his fellow midfielders are able to mask his immobility, but at the moment he is a passenger and a luxury that we can't afford.

Stevo has played for 7 clubs

Cairney has played for 6

The nonsense that Cairney is a journey man footballer is a load of crap

Cairney is a far superior footballer to Stevenson.
Especially based on Stevenson's form from last season. A few cracking goals doesn't make him a better player.

Stevenson would have least 10 goals for us by now if we had kept him [emoji20]

McCall on BBC Sportsound tonight. Said very little of actual interest aside from proclaiming that St Mirren are now a 'top 3 team'. Whit.

With the players in they've got in their squad they should be doing far better than they are currently doing. Just shows what a bad job Alex Rae did with them to get them in that position.

Top 3 is a bit of a push. Hibs, Dundee Utd and Morton have got much stronger squads. Player for player I'd say they're on a par with Falkirk.

It doesn't really do much for our morale that he's coming out and talking up the one team that we were hoping would out-shite us this season.

He was honest about our lack of fight though. He didn't duck it.

Tomorrow night is so, so big. McCall is the right man to lead ayr in my opinion but we're fucked if we fail to win again. He mentioned that he has clear plans on the next level for the club if we can just consolidate this season.

Lose tonight and it's almost certain relegation and new manager in.
