Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons

Whereas with the Paddy Power announcement i'd wager more people already know who sponsor Motherwell in the last hour since it was made, than from a whole year of shirt-front sponsorship.

Aye. I think if you're an already established brand, then surely there's a decent argument for that.

I still have no idea what 'Commsworld' is, or was.

I have owned more Motorola tops than any other sponsor. At the time, they had a factory in East Kilbride, so, it all tied in.

The association with the club led me to photographing the logo on my first trip to Hong Kong in 1995; physical film then, and, oddly purchasing a Motorola handset as my last but one phone. (The brand being revived by Lenovo, who make excellent laptops).

As others above, the world has moved on. Neither will we see your Candy's, Sharps nor Brothers in the EPL.

Would this make me more likely to use PP over another bookie? First thoughts are not.

Cheers

I think the Bet Park thing was even wierder TBH - did they even exist? The top google search result for them is a Steelmen thread :)

I'm nostalgic for The Untouchables which was a wallpaper shop IIRC.....

Pretty happy with the news of the sponsor-less shirts. Providing we don't have a catastrophic season and end up relegated, that away kit will be the type of kit that you keep for years and look back on with fond memories ala the 1994/95 claret kit. It's an absolutely cracking away kit.

Class work from all involved at the club, well done! Huge win financially and perhaps just as importantly PR/exposure wise.

Say what you want about betting companies but Paddy Power are basically #1 in the UK at marketing in terms of creativity.

Now give me that white number asap

This is not a dig at Motherwell for obvious  reasons  but I wish football and sports in general would  move away from getting  sponsorship from betting  companies.. you might not have the sponsor  on the shirt but it will be rammed down your throat some other way.

Leaves a bad taste in the mouth that we're taking cash from betting companies at the same time as punting suicide prevention stuff tbh.

Oi! My step dad's a director of Commsworld ha.

No slight intended, I wish him well, in whatever: "We manage and control the largest privately funded Optical Core network in the UK with extensive on-net Metro reach."

Means.

There was a right weird reaction to when McEwan Fraser Legal pulled their sponsorship, though.

TBF, from memory folk also got raging at there being green on the top of the stand.

In short; People are freaks, don't trust them.

Whereas I see your point, would you rather the club [bold italics on] didn't highlight mental health issues? [bold italics off].

The facts are that the regulators allow these sort of sponsorships, plus a betting company has, maybe still is, the main sponsor of the top tier.

Fair play to the club and all persons involved, I was thinking they had messed up this year but they had me hook, line n sinker.

Sounds like a great deal too.

Just because the beaks say it's ok does not make if OK..  nearly every club in Britain has some sort of betting  sponsorship and TV companies shove it down our necks at every given opportunity..

Probably a different debate for a different thread but it will be interesting to see what Motherwell  have to do in exchange for no shirt sponsorship....

What? No, I'd rather we didn't promote betting companies

To be fair, I'm not completely raging about this. We've ran about with bookies and payday loans companies on our shirts for years now, and to an extent any company with enough spare money to chuck at a Scottish football team is probably involved in something shady. Credit to the club for getting a good deal but I'd personally prefer we weren't involved in this sort of thing.

That's fine. For those that know me here, a data set of two....  I'm not a particularly 'nice' person, with loads of faults.

I'd rather the "amateurs' running Motherwell FC do their best for the club.

FWIW, if I relocated to Gloucestershire, and casually started watching Forest Green Rovers, as I did Aarau (Rheinfelden), Marske United (Saltburn by the Sea) and AFC Marine (Liverpool), I'd have found another club as I do not align with their values.
