Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons

Delighted with Butcher signing. I think he's exactly the type of player we need to give the midfield a bit of dig and let others play. It should allow us to rotate the various options based on opposition/form/fitness.

9 out, 9 in.

Out:
Aarons (loan cancelled), Moult (loan cancelled), Fox, Penney (end of loan), Johansen, Connelly (loan), Speirs (loan), Maguire (loan), Shields (loan) = 9

In:
Blaney, Crankshaw (loan), Mandron (immediately injured), Danzaki, Aitchison, Furlong (loan), Obika (loan), Casey, Butcher = 9

Can't really argue that Hammell hasn't been backed like.

Tbh, looking at that squad it should be an absolutely fine mid-table team.

It's on Hammell and Kerr now.

Very much so. Basically everything we’ve been calling for has been covered now in terms of positions. We’ve done much more than I thought we would actually, so fair play on that front.

No more excuses for Hammy now, has to turn it around and quickly.

Just to check this from the close of the summer window:

Ojala - Blaney in
Aarons (loan cancelled) - Crankshaw in
Moult (loan cancelled) - Mandron (immediately injured) in - Obika in
Fox - N/A
Penney (end of loan) - Furlong in
Johansen - Casey in
Connelly (loan) - N/A
Speirs (loan) - N/A
Maguire (loan) - Butcher in
Shields (loan) - Danzaki in

It really only leave Aitchison as an additional incoming that's not been like for like.

Our first team squad (including 3 long term injured players plus Morris) comes in at 27 players.

Probably fair to call Johnson an incoming as he's straight into the first team/first team squad and will be on the bench at least moving forward. Could perhaps argue the same about Dunachie. Although I think we will see less of him.

Don’t think there will be a ‘well fan disappointed with this. Butcher fills the gap in the squad which was desperately needing filled. Who of Goss or Slattery drop now to accommodate Butcher? Personally I’d drop Goss but reckon it will be Slattery to have some balance in the midfield.

If Slattery stays in the team I’m hoping we see him playing without the pressure of trying to protect the back 4. We might just see the Slattery that we seen when he first joined the club.

Just drop Goss for our collective blood pressure relief, I beg.

I still think we're in deep bother, the margin for getting out of this is still wafer thin.

But at least with these two additions you can see a potential path to safety.

Today remains huge though. Less the result but the reaction - another 90 of senior players jogging it in and we need a new manager seeing what we can do with our improved squad.
