Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons

Recommended Posts

No longer winning.

We still need to work on the cutting edge and defensively we're still wobbly...but christ what a change in approach. We must have made more passes this half than in whole months of games of last season.

I wouldn't be surprised if our defence costs in the end today but win, lose or draw that 45 has suggested there is at least something to build on.

Equaliser very much against the run of play.

Blimey, a new experience, watching the Well and *not* wanting to gouge my eyes out with a spoon.  Hammy must already be doing good things behind the scenes, as the hoofball was reduced to a minimum, and we even pressed from the front

who knew that that pile of shite we thought we had can actually play!

Yeah, doesn't it already feel like they're good enough to fairly comfortably avoid relegation*?  We've certainly managed to make Aberdeen look ordinary, again.

Maybe it doesn't count when the team is already sitting on the mantelpiece 😄

(*Famous last words, jinxed it)

Assuming that’s our baseline with Hammell we will be fine.

There is no point getting carried away but it was as clear as day that the shackles were off a few players there - imagine we played with that tempo and freedom against Sligo...

To make a noticeable change and to win a game comfortably means that Hammy has started as well as we could have hoped. Defence still needs a huge amount of work but if we're scoring 3, that's fine.

Just a few subtle changes and a lot more belief in the players.

I guess it was still a 4-3-3 but nearer a 4-1-4-1 with Cornelius and Slattery given the job of pushing forward to close down the ball and the wide forwards staying wide instead of chasing all over the place. Made our attacking play more predictable as in our players knew where our forwards were going to be making their runs from. It just seemed easier to get forward. Even when Efford came on he was able to cover the left side of the park and provide an attacking outlet on the left flank.
