Ron Aldo
Quite disappointed that O'Connor is away. Thought he had something about him when he played in the LC last year and that we might have given him another year after his loan spell.

crazylegsjoe_mfc
I can’t remember O’Connor doing anything wrong particularly, but the fact that when he had the run of games in the league cup, we got beaten by Airdrie and went two down to QOTS doesn’t reflect well on him. The fact that we went out and signed Sol and Ojala after that told me we signed him purely for numbers in the league cup.
Casagolda
O’Connor will be 23 by the start of next season and he’s only played about 30 games of professional football. I’d say for the good of his own career, he needs to go somewhere where he can play 30-40 games next season. We already have Mugabi, Ojala and Sol all signed up as well as seemingly trying to keep Lamie- so he’d be hanging about as 4th or 5th choice again at best. Even when the inevitable injuries and suspensions come, the club probably see more long term benefits to someone like Campbell(5 years his junior) getting those minutes than O’Connor. And it might wind some folk up but Tam Cowan is superb as a compere, as un PC as you can get. His Q&A session with Alexander on the stage was comedy gold. Does Alexander come across as a fun loving, can take a joke kind of a guy? Did he hold his hands up to any particular errors or disclose any of the issues that were not public. Or was it more light hearted fare than that?

Kapowzer
I look forward to "I just seen XYZ standing outside Upper Crust with a Fermo". Alexander keeps his plotting tighter than a Star Wars script.

Can't remember seeing one if so and even a token linkage to the obvious (McAlear say) hasnt been spotted. I guess it's in theory better the club keeps the cards close etc and announces business when done but gossip about targets, renewals, friendlies etc is often more fun than the actual football... Some jobber called Alfie May was mention a while ago.
one m in Motherwell
I’m sure I saw something on the Livi thread about us being in for Sibbald. Can’t see it personally - is he not basically Mark O’Hara? Besides, I thought we’d grown out of that difficult Livi hand-me-down stage.

I always *think* that I quite like Sibbald but its hard to justify it beyond a few Championship highlights from about 6 years ago at this point tbh.

I dunno, Martindale would make a fine bouncer at the door of the Centenary Suite.

He came across a bit defensive, I think he's defending his team as much as himself, but he feels the criticism is unjustified across the whole of the season. I suspect he's been given some metrics, he's exceeded them, so he's feeling (correctly) he's done his job... Accepts it wasn't perfect. (Perhaps 'entertaining football' can't be quantified so it wasn't asked for ) Tam ribbed him about not leaving a man up when defending a corner, hoofball missing out the midfield, the tombola for the raffle getting used for team selection, it was like reading the highlights from here, but Tam delivered them really well, nicely judging how far to push it. And then going a tiny bit further GA got polite but good applause for his replies but it was stuff we've heard already in the last few days. Consequently I think he garnered respect rather than affection* from the attendees. (* Keith Lasley love-fest, KVV hero worship, 'Please let me give Big Bev a hug' being the emotional counterpoints )

I’ve been a couple of times. Is generally a good laugh. We had Lionel Ainsworth at our table the last time I went. Nice bloke although I kept calling him Gareth. Had Randolph at out table once. Now he’s a top bloke, although refused to confirm or deny the Saturdays rumour

Aye, this is exactly how I see it as well. Absolutely nothing against DOC as he seems a good lad and has something about him but at his age and stage of his career he really needs to be playing games. There's every chance he turns into a very good defender but that's not going to happen hanging around here as 4th or 5th choice. As @crazylegsjoe_mfc says it feels very much like O'Connor was signed to cover that transitional spell early last season where we had competitive games but hadn't yet secured our main targets. See also the bold Justin and Mich'el Parker. The other thing is, unlike other almost every other season recently the majority of our squad is contracted so we don't really have same slack to just dish out extensions to players like O'Connor as we probably would have when Robinson was here and turning over half the squad every summer. As it stands, including Johnston, there are 19 "first team" players contracted and 9 outfield players OOC or returning to their parent club so we probably only have space for 5 max. incoming to replace those 9 (assuming none of the contracted players move on). ropy
I am socialising with a Dundee United supporting mate today, my tack is going to be that given the games between us were won by the home team that only the quirk of the fixtures seeing three games at Tannadice robbed us of 4th place. Fair?

Lionel and Joe Chalmers were at our table - Lionel was good chat but not fond of Mark McGhee (to say the least). Joe was an absolute gent, which made it all the harder to accept him as being pretty shocking at football.

Fair? I think it was to GA's credit that at a time where he could have done with some excuses, he didn't bring up the 3rd trip to Tannadice as one of them - as it was a competitive disadvantage. That said, Utd finishing ahead of us doesn't feel like any kind of injustice - I think they were the better of the two teams TBH.
