Some c**t always has to take things too far! 😮

The hashtag needs to gain traction, I'm sure all those who've had the fishal twitter feed open on their phones all day in the hope to be the first to post the "news" could help.

Most people who want the manager gone have no suggestion as to who would replace him, and why should they, that is not their job, it is the job of the board.  But the board came up with the criteria for what they wanted in a manager and matched Alexander to that and then extended his deal because he had met his targets. That same board would be looking to appoint the same manager again.

Maybe we need a new selection process, footgolf?

After a brutal morning in work a few months ago, where I had to make an absolutely shite and difficult decision, I took the rest of the day off and went to the museum of rural life in East Kilbride and stared at tractors.

Just sayin...

Nice bit of tractor porn, that'll sort you out.

Aye.

Whoever replaces Alexander, whenever that is, be it today, the summer or further down the line it seems unlikely that we'll be suddenly be pivoting to someone who's going to come in with promises of expansive, attacking football - that obviously worked really well for Aberdeen and Hibs this season.

Instead, it'll be someone who generally fits the same template as Robinson and Alexander.

Broadly that has tended to work. Our league finishes since Robinson's first full season have been; 7th, 8th, 3rd*, 8th and minumum 6th this season (an average of 6.4 over the 5 seasons) along with 2 cup finals, 2 SC QFs and a LC QF.

It's something that the usual suspects currently living in the clubs mentions and stamping their feet about style of football probably need to deal with or they're going to just find themselves permanently unfulfilled and raging.

Generally for our resources, pragmatic fitba seems to be our bread and butter. Which isn't to say we can't aspire to brief flourishes but the fact is that even when we were Fun Motherwell sections of the support were still furious about something.

So it is what it is - you can't always get what you want.

That said, I'd still kind of expect the board to learn from this and factor it in to the criteria going forward.  In the same way they seemed to take on board the fact that Robinson's perpetual rebuilds and wild turnover of players were unsustainable it's not unreasonable to think they'd look at the current situation and realise that, while not dramatically changing the criteria, they can finesse it a bit.

This season has shown the limits of "points are all that matters" football I think (it's certainly reached mine for the first time). People will thole relatively grim percentage football if it works, but when you can't even point to the fact that we're picking up points at a decent rate, there's nothing left for folk that are forking out a lot of money following us.

My view is that Motherwell are a (the?) midtable team - so finishing somewhere between 5th and 8th is our natural territory and so I've got no overblown ideas of what we should be achieving over the long term - but I'd like some fun along the way.

My idea of pragmatic football is that we make life miserable for bigger teams (like we did to Aberdeen and Hearts at Fir Park this season in fact) and we play some modestly entertaining attacking football against our peers and smaller teams. Having a squad that can pivot between two types of football (and having a manager that is flexible enough to make it happen) is very difficult and a bit of holy grail for a club like ours - but we haven't been close this season despite a top half finish.

To rewind to the #crypto chat a while back, I just clocked this from Derek after the whole SportemonGo affair.

Seems we declined a similar offer at the time.

Aye, I suspected it'd be the case having seen Burrows' RTs about it on Twitter but nice to know we've actively avoided it directly.

I have zero doubt that the SPFL thing will fall on its arse as well.

Fishal YouTube doing a bit on Brian Kerr and the unders. Nice to see the first team watching, would be nicer if it was genuine interest than they'd just finished a weights session in the South.

Not managing to get a sponsor for the kits is a wee bit of an oversight, can't see it being that expensive to manage for any prospective parties.

It got me thinking, when the football was good, McGhee (v1.0), McCall (11/12) and Robinson (Turnbull emergence) what was the catalyst for this, was it academy graduates, good summer acquisitions, players improving or managers getting the best?

1./ I was abroad for McGhee's first spell so missed it all however when I was home I witnessed POD's collapse. Maybe someone could fill this bit in. Stephen Hughes was good that time around yeah? Transfermarkt has him down as a 360k purchase, surely not?

2./A/ For McCall it was a mixture of inherited and acquisitions in his first season. I felt a lot of it was down to Randolph (Jack and Vic acquisition), Hutchinson was brought in as a kid for a song developed into a mainstay. Law being the really memorable one for me who made the link from midfield to the forward line tick, Jennings who was as gritty a central midfielder as you like, Higgy who scored for fun was excellent business. Murphy up front another academy graduate, Ojamaa supplemented the team excellently in his January arrival. It was a season before Tom Hateley moved to RB consistently yeah?

B/ Next season was the arrival of Faddy late on, Lawson was always injured, Craig Moore is listed as a 17 year old, remember him? Excitement at his talent now at Darvel and still only 27 and Omar Daley.

C/ Final full season was arrival of Handsome John from Hearts, Lee Erwin started to feature but it was only under Skippy's realtime coaching did he flourish the following season. Arnier and Ainsworth, Vigurs and Cadden in midfield. Despite Hollis and Nielsen as our goalkeepers we finished 2nd thanks to Craig Reid who is also at Darvel now.

Players such as Las, Craigan and Hammel were mainstays throughout these seasons.

3./ Aldred returning, with Hartley due to Cedric departing that summer. Turnbull, Wee Al, Gorrin and Donnelly all being available for midfield. Ariyibi was a welcome addition in January ..... erm and Hastie. Curtis Main turned pish too.

I thought Hughes came on a free, like Porter, but both were very well paid. The combination of them, two bits of A+ quality, and McGhee frankly working a miracle on some others changed things.

Agree on McCall A and B, him getting C to second with that squad was nothing short of astonishing though. we seemed to win game after game clinging on 2-1 or by the odd goal having not played especially well. Perhaps that's my mind playing tricks on me.

The Robinson fun time I think was just a coincidence of a youth group breaking through together combined with a solid defence, Gorrin suddenly being brilliant and Main, despite never scoring, actually playing an important role for the team.

re the strips the youths were wearing in video, they not just hand me downs from the Paddy Power campaign?

With the club churning out regular #content on Twitter btw, is everyone just going to forget about the fervour of yesterday and quietly move on like it didn't happen?

Well, other than a lot of online debate, sparked by what appears to have been baseless and ill informed 'source' type info, nothing in actual fact did happen.

Who knows, maybe there was some form of meeting and Alexander has convinced them he is still the man for the job, or an agreement has been reached for a parting of the ways once the season concludes. Or perhaps they were all actually up the Ravens Cliff for a carvery and a couple of pints. Who knows?

The debate, however, was decent and passed a few hrs and gave a good, broad view of the feelings among the support. Unfortunately, imo, at the end of the day the manager is still in place.
