Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons

We seem to be signing Matthew McDonald who was released by yourselves over the summer. Does anyone know much about him? From what I've read he's a right-back but we'll be using him in midfield. I see he made the bench once or twice but doesn't seem to have played any first-team games anywhere. The last young right-back we signed from Motherwell turned out pretty well for us, so hopefully this is the case here too.

Kid can play, make no doubt about that. Injured at the wrong stage of development & last years’ lack of opportunities didn’t help - and I don’t mean first team ready before some jump on that comment.

Aye, it feels like that entire group lost a full year or more worth of development with there being no Reserves league.

The only time I saw him was in the Challenge Cup against Spartans. He was playing left back in that game IIRC.

also linked to a polish right back who allegedly played in the Dumbarton game name of Pawel Zuk

The clips at 0:35 suggests he has experience of playing in Airdrie, so no qualms on throwing him straight in to the league cup.

Kevin Van Veen. Lazy Lazy Lazy striker but has talent.

Will bang in goals if he's "up for it".

Personally I wouldn't sign him but if they manager can get a tune out of him, he will do well.

Don’t piss on our chips.

Probably not likely to sign for a Scottish Championship side anyway.

Scotland’s POTY 2021-22, a la Higdon. That’ll do.

So....that means Grimmy is the next one in the shoogly peg club? (I'm assuming SOD isn't going anywhere)

I always assumed we basically promised SOD we'd sell him

Yep - I assumed that part of him signing on pre-euros (and us getting the appearance money) was us agreeing to be "easy to deal with" if he gets a good offer on the back of the Euros - and I assume his game at Wembley would have been good for him.

It would seem overkill to have SOD, Grimshaw, Johnson and be looking this new RB on trial too.
Wouldn’t be surprised if someone down south watched SOD at Wembley and is willing to take take a punt on him.

Not saying Van Been is bad. I'm just saying he has the talent to play at a higher level than league 2 in England. He just needs to use it. Will play well in some games but I suspect he may be a target for the boo boys if things are going badly. Personally hope he comes in and scores 15 goals but we will see!

We don’t boo our own players at Motherwell.
