Goes without saying that I think Campbell is a smashing player but he's not that good that it justfies how ridiculously reliant we are on him for our midfield to function, and basically have been since he came into the team other than the times he was playing alongside Turnbull.

I'm not sure what the plan is with O'Hara, Crawford, Maguire and Donnelly but I think a central midfielder will probably be our most important signing in summer.

Aye, to me we need 2 central mids...one to replace Campbell and one to replace Polworth. I've a feeling that had Robinson stuck around the plan would have been for O'Hara to take Campbell's place but I'd say that's less of a given now.

It's been mentioned before but it's wild that we've been carrying a squad with only one 'creative' centre mid for ages (Turnbull, Polworth) - in fact in the Thunderdome era the Rose, McHugh and Campbell 3 didn't even have a 'creative' element - did it matter when we were just chucking bodies around? No, it did not.

I can think of Polworth replacements but like for like with Campbell is a bit more difficult.

For me these are the gaps to fill as it stands:

Campbell has conducted himself brilliantly in his time with us - no big "come and get" pieces in the papers, no guns to the head and has been a cracking player - he thoroughly deserves his move and I'm sure he'll be a more than decent player at that level (because you'd imagine that he won't be carrying a whole midfield on a weekly basis).

Genuine shame that he won't get a send-off from the supporters but I'm sure the pay packet might go some way to cheer him up...

If we're talking about moving abroad instead of playing in the Championship I absolutely would not want to play in the MLS. At least if you move to La Liga 1/2 or Serie A/B it looks far more impressive than playing a couple of seasons at the Columbus Chargers or whatever they're called. Liam Henderson has done the right thing.

Aye but he's got some kind of talent.

Luke Watt was playing for NK Novigrad in Croatia which I think is at proper diddy level but from a look at Google images it looks like a lovely place to visit.

I think you're over-estimating the modest aims for my jobber ability,  but seen as no-one asked, here's my ideal career for my fantasy modest jobber career:

Scottish Premiership -> Couple of years learning to be snide as f**k in Serie B -> 3 years at Osaka Gamba -> 1 year at Beleneses in Portugal -> 1 year at Montevideo Wanderers -> 1 year at NEC Nijmegen -> 2 years at Seattle Sounders -> Seeing out my days at Western Sydney Wanderers.

I like it. Not earning a fortune but what an absolute carry on of a worldwide jolly.

Who can you think of? I enjoy who other people reckon we should go for.

someone I noticed, in my albeit very limited time watching QOTS was Connor Shields who I believe is out of contract this summer, started with Albion Rovers and got a decent move to Sunderland, seems as though it didn't quite work out and he was back up the road. Seems to have done pretty well with QOTS. 9 goals and 3 assists in 20 games.

this is based on nothing other than having watched a couple of the BBC games.

Hahahaha! I'm hesitant to go all we should sign such and such because it's all a bit fantasist patter.

However, as a Polworth specific replacement I'll nominate Graham Carey and here's my pitch:

He's played up here a lot (in fact I think he paid us a visit when McHugh was here as well), he's 'experienced', his record at Plymouth was obscene (49 goals in 200 games from that #8 midfield role we use), we've actually had some decent luck with ex-Plymouth players (McHugh, Tanner, Hartley), last I checked he's out of contract in the summer and was playing with Tony Watt at CSKA Sofia so he passes the 'pal of Tony' test.

To be fair, his numbers for goals and assists would probably plummet when he's unable to dislodge dead ball specialist Barry Maguire from corners and free-kicks.

bbc two love GIF by BBC all of the money for 100% of the idea haha !! Nah I know what you mean on the fantasist side of things because, let's face it, what do fans know, beats discussing Gallagher's contract I suppose.

I like what I've seen of Shields too. He seems quick and strong and think he would do well for us . I'm the furthest guy you could possibly meet from being itk, so I obviously have no idea how things have progressed, but I do know at least that the club are among a few who have spoken to him.
