Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons

Does anyone else remember Steelmen Online outing Casagolda's agent as a beast? Sounds like something I've conjured up in a fever dream but I swear it happened.

Here's the very thread.

Anyway...in other news. Robinson's updated on the Young Team contract situation in the super soaraway Sun.

Quote

Hastie, 19, is out of contract in the summer, but boss Robinson is confident the rookie will follow fellow starlet James Scott in penning a new deal.

Robinson said: “Jake is out of contract at the end of the season, but we’re very well protected in terms of compensation.

“We’ve made Jake a good offer. James Scott signed on Wednesday, and Barry McGuire has been offered a new deal.

“We had to do a bit of wheeling and dealing in the transfer market in order to get to that stage, but Jake’s a big part of what we’re doing.

“He’s playing regular first-team football, and I’d sit in front of any parent and tell them if their boy goes to England they will be playing Under-23 football, and will maybe lose their way.

“I’m a big advocate of playing early and playing young, and I’m confident Jake will re-sign.”

If they wanted to do a reveal for Yung Dolph extending then he's fairly fucked that. It's clearly good news he's signed though and I look forward to seeing how they manage to remodel the Fir Park tunnel to accommodate him.

In fairness Robinson was confident about Turnbull extending his deal and he did but I definitely feel some kind of way about the Hastie thing. It's a very different tone compared to what was being said publicly about Turnbull. Which is fine, but feels like we're quite publicly tempting fate.

Pretty sure you're right.

Did his representative not turn out to be some Scottish Walter Mitty type unlicensed agent, who was also the poster Hammerfist or something, that spammed the site with the constant 'goal machine' posts that heralded his imminent arrival ?

Not sure my recollection is 100% right, but it was something along those lines, back in the halcyon days of Steelmen before it tailed off to its current state.

Edit : here's the link

Aye, he got jailed twice for being a beast and then was found dead in a flat in Govan a few years ago.

Edit: clearly I don’t know how to link properly. Google ‘Steven Hope football agent’ and you’ll find it.

This one.

That was this one.

This was my favourite era - properly loved that team. If Coyne and Arnott had actually spent less time on the treatment table and more time playing together, who knows what would have happened...

The first goal in the second clip - Dolan-Coyne-Arnott...

The full Casagolda thread where he turned out to be real, and then we actually signed him, is one of the best things I've ever watched play out. Absolutely hilarious reading.

The bit about him knocking back the Old Firm, Killie, Hearts and half of Europe because he was desperate to sign for Motherwell is sensational. Makes me laugh every time.

Edit- also enjoying the argument about John Utaka's wages

Aye, in a way it's why I've always been a bit irked by the glorification of the 91 team. I mean, maybe that's a bit harsh, in fact it probably is as there's a lot to enjoy about the Cup season and it featured some of my favourite Motherwell players. Also they won the Scottish Cup so fair fucks.

It's just the fact that the 93/94 and 94/95 teams were better footballing sides than the 91 team has been kind of overshadowed by the fact they're bookended by a team who actually won something and it falling apart under McLeish (which he talks about here, who knew we were as well thought of by Alex Ferguson btw: “A great club. A stable club.”). I may be wrong but they seem to be two seasons that have been tucked away as a bit of a footnote, which is a shame tbqh.

I mean in context, that was a Motherwell side finishing 4 (FOUR) points off a Murray funded Rangers who were chucking millions around with the same hubris that would eventually kill them and 2nd behind the same Rangers side but with added Laudrup and with Celtic (albeit this version) also in the league.

It's unreal. The whole thing started as a wind-up then we seemed to sign a boy because it'd be patter.

Fair fucks to all involved, because it was brilliant.

Couldn't tell you the last time I actually logged into Steelmen for a read through, let alone post. May well need to clear my morning to have a read through that Casagolda thread again, the early posts on that and the Hammerfist agent was some absolutely superb stuff!

As pish as he ended up - to the surprise of no sane minded person - watching his half time warmup was an absolute joy. The man had one of the best first touches, and cross-field pings I've ever seen at Fir Park.

I think he also scored from the kick off of his first training match, or something equally as mental.

I have also heard a few bit of inside info that the other players were continually pishing themselves laughing at how bad he was.

I post this as a non-gammon who doesn't read the Daily Express so can't corroborate the veracity of the below.

Anyway, according to *cough* VivaMotherwell on twitter dot com the Express has us having beaten St Johnstone to Declan Gallagher's signature on a two year deal (presumably with appropriate indemnity clauses).

In fairness to VivaMotherwell it'd appear they're repeating a rumour that seems to be in a print edition so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If this has been written by Scott Burns, there's a fair chance it's spot on. He usually is!

Guys Im trying to remember a former Motherwell player who think scored a hattrick on his debut? Might have been pre admin.

Davide Ferrere.

Was the anniversary of it this week or something.

Casagolda resolutely ignoring, or failing to understand, that the at Dundee crowd wanted a wave, until Shaun Hutchinson physically made him wave, was a highlight of his time for me.
