Cowdenbeath FC 2016/ 2017

Dougie going to cowden is 100% not going to happen. He's rejected Alloa, well not rejected but has the offer on hold as he wants to play championship football & he is in talks with a few championship clubs atm.

Let's get real. Cowdenbeath is currently a lower league club with a small, but dedicated home support. It is a club run by fans and volunteers. While we have a good - and somewhat colourful - history, we have a crap stadium that we don't own, in the midst of a town that has been struggling ever since our main industry - coal mining - went into decline. When mining was thriving, the club flourished; nowadays the club is in a battle for survival - yet again. In recent times we have had some amazing successes - amazing given our situation - winning our first title in 67 years under Mixu, and being for a time in the Scottish Championship. Any decent managers and players move on, without adequate recompense. For example, we brought Greg Stewart in from amateur football and coached him; when he moved to Dundee we got not a penny for him. We helped to rescue Kane Hemmings' career after he was released by Rangers - again, when he moved to Dundee we got nothing. Stewart and Hemmings are now arguably the best front pairing in the SPL (and Dundee fans are whining because they might lose them for nothing). Darren McGregor is a product of our youth system - now a highly regarded defender in the SPL (and no money for him). When we lose guys like that with no fee, relegation inevitably looms. Our directors (fans) have put a fair bit of money into the club. Given our circumstances, any young players we bring through the youth system will move on without recompense; any players we bring in from juniors, etc., will probably be flawed in one way or another. Other lower league clubs are in a similar situation.

We'll fight on, and try to progress, and move up the leagues again. It's what we do.

Kris Renton was absolutely rotten for us. There's a reason why he's been playing junior.

Never heard of the guy, but hopefully he'll do a job

2 players spring to mind both Mark Yardley & Darren McGregor were average at best 1st time they were with us. Both returned after a stint in juniors totally different player, so much better.

Following our presentation via the 100 club presenting a cheque to the chairman this is something the chairman recognises the club has not done well at and wishes to get better at in terms of making money from players who move on

It could be worse, we could have just signed Ross Caldwell.

I'd be absolutely stunned if Ross Caldwell is any worse than Renton. At least Caldwell had some kind of the SFL pedigree before coming to Cowden.

That's why we are here...time will tell. There lies the interest. Will Caldwell improve at Brechin? How will all the pieces fit together under the new management team? The only pedigree that matters is the ability to adapt and change. Cowdenbeath is always in a state of change and whether 'flawed', untried or otherwise every player has the potential to change their lot under the right circumstances of the kind that we hope is fermenting behind the scenes at Central Park right now.

You will be left speechless by Caldwell. He just basically doesn't care and is living off his rep as an ex Hibs youth.

Brechin are more than welcome to Caldwell.

You just have to look at the guys twitter account comment two years ago to tell you the attitude he is bringing to your club.

Going on last season's judgement on him he clearly still feels the same

Cowdenbeath are well rid

Prepare to be stunned.

SFL pedigree? We were thrilled when Stephen McConalogue signed for us. #shudder

I think it's time to stop taking players on loan, looking back on the last couple of seasons the loanees were doing great but when they left the team s confidence went to f"@k let's give the young ones a decent run

Disagree to an extent. We need loans in order to compete, it's as simple as that. Had Murdoch's agent not been a fanny and Smith not had aspirations of going to Australia, they'd both still be Cowden players until the end of the season and more than likely we'd have been completely safe.

yes your Wright Cowden loyal but nothing worse when you know your best players (loanees)are off when you need them most. Maybe just maybe a solid team might do better in the long term

We would definitely have been safe and probably made 4th.

The offer at Alloa is no longer there JR signed Andy Graham from Ayr on thur nite

Dougie will struggle to find a Club in that Div !!!

That's what I think as well. He is into his last few years as a player. We don't need him anyway, although I would still be happy to sign him.

Eh, Kris Renton was at Norwich before he arrived at Brechin.

What relevance does that have? He's not scored goals anywhere other than at junior level and was one of the worst players I've seen in a Brechin shirt.

Wait until Caldwell arrives you might change your mind about Renton.

Dont have any idea how good or who Renton is but from what I have read it was years ago he played for you and beforehand he suffered from a broken leg so that might have hindered his development.

He must have shown some potential to be at Norwich at a young age and now he has potentially another chance to fulfil his potential in the professional leagues.
