You would expect that to be the case, although it depends on how well the finances are managed.

Would be some going to be worse than budgeting for 2nd place when actually getting 2nd place wouldn't be enough anyway.

I'm not ITK but I would strongly suspect worse as I think the clubs make next to nothing from the playoffs

Get to the final and that's approx 20k across the 3 home games. 57.5% of that is far from next to nothing.

It’s saying that nobody checked at the beginning how many tickets were available for sale.

Is that what you took from that word salad? Fair play.

Anyway, there’s another statement released now which tries to explain the movement of fans between stands. By “explain”, I mean place blame on the fans.

The sort of passive aggressive statement that wouldn’t have been out of place in the Jacqui Low era.

If the club doesn't f**k up the ticket situation in the Lambie then none of the other issues occur (if they all happened as the club claim) yet the majority of the statement is aimed at blaming the fans.

On this part of the statement

Quote

As it became evident in the lead up to kick-off that the John Lambie Stand was not as full as reported, our stewarding partner G4S had to deal with a number of supporters who breached the Jackie Husband Stand trackside wall to move uncontrolled to the John Lambie Stand

we're talking about a fraction of the group of children who have started to gather this season over at the JHS side of the Lambie stand with their flags and on occasion a drum, they are primary school age at most. It's hardly a group of grown men forcing their way into the stand. Strange the club decided to leave that context out of it.

There's still a lot of work to be done once the club becomes properly fan owned, hopefully starting with Gerry Britton being chased.

aye, i mean i was near that end of the jhs and:

"The club’s review of supporter migration issues on Friday in conjunction with our security partners has now been completed.

"An error in determining sales in the ticketing system for the John Lambie Stand meant that half of its capacity was not being used."

Club f**k up somewhere. These things happen etc. First point of failure.

"This meant supporters who had hoped to watch the match from the John Lambie Stand had to purchase tickets for the Jackie Husband Stand in the lead up to the match."

ok

"As it became evident in the lead up to kick-off that the John Lambie Stand was not as full as reported, our stewarding partner G4S had to deal with a number of supporters who breached the Jackie Husband Stand trackside wall to move uncontrolled to the John Lambie Stand."

I can't honestly mind this tbf as was fairly late to the game but... again. ok.

"Throughout the first half, tensions continued to rise within an element of our support, who were disgruntled that they were displaced from the John Lambie Stand and who wished to be relocated there. Reports were received from G4S and Police Scotland around the feeling of tension and discontent and that many fans had indicated they were going to move from the Jackie Husband Stand to the John Lambie Stand uninvited."

fans a bit fucked off that they couldnt go to where they normally sit/where their season tickets are. ok.

"In addition, the club’s safety officer received a report from the assistant referee on the Jackie Husband Stand side that he had been struck by unknown missiles from the corner of the Jackie Husband Stand at section 9, closest to the John Lambie Stand. While the club accepts that supporters were frustrated by how Friday evening unfolded off the pitch, this behaviour from any of our supporters is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the club. CCTV footage is being reviewed and anyone found guilty of such behaviour will face a lifetime ban from the stadium."

unknown missiles is disconceringly vague; if it was pound coins thats unacceptable, if its an empty foil pie rapper its not going to do any damage.

"As a result of these factors, our safety team required a disproportionate level of stewarding to this area which was seriously compromising our deployment plan."

OUR f**k UP MEANT THE STEWARDS HAD TO GO OVER AND DO THEIR FUCKING JOB :(

"With an uncontrolled migration of fans from the Jackie Husband Stand to the John Lambie Stand expected, the decision – after conversations between the PTFC Safety team, Police Scotland and G4S – was made to have a discreet migration from the corner of the Jackie Husband Stand into the John Lambie Stand. Other options were considered such as externally migrating to the John Lambie Stand through the outside of the stadium and a tannoy announcement around the migration. This decision was reached as the first half of the match was ending."

discreet migration

"Unfortunately, the organisation of this controlled migration was not initiated early enough and took longer than anticipated to complete. Once the process was initiated, other supporters in the Jackie Husband Stand, on seeing what was happening, chose to emerge from several of the exit gates along the stand to make their way unescorted to the John Lambie Stand."

omnishambles

"During our efforts to resolve the situation a minority entered the field of play, which was made worse by the reckless individual with two smoke flares. This individual was subsequently arrested and will receive a lifetime ban from Firhill Stadium. Accumulatively, this all led to a delayed kick off in the second half of the game."

omnishambles

To ensure there is no repeat of the situation which arose on Friday night, we will:

  • Initiate adequate checks on our ticketing system to ensure that tickets recorded in the ticketing system match numbers actually sold.
  • Hasten our match day safety communication channels to allow agreed actions to take place quicker, if required.
  • Provide a greater number of stewards pitch side to deal with any incursion attempts.

This sounds broadly fair enough. I was there and noticed that there were zero police officers pitchside during the "migration attempt" which seems a bit baffling. Not the clubs fault on that score tbf.

but aye, unless im misremembering, a few police officers were down at HT talking to young kids that wanted to jump over to the north stand. the police fucked off (presumably back to the control room). only a handful of stewards at the corner of JHS towards the NS during the "controlled migration" attempt.

i think if there was a bit more of a police presence/management pitchside then the outcome could have been better instead of leaving it all to the stewards. the stewards fatly chasing after the guy with the flares was... well, amusing, but avoidable.

Will there be VAR in the away leg but not home leg of playoff?

Couple of replies to the P&B twitter including from Alistair Lamont from the BBC suggest it'll be both legs and getting installed at FIrhill this week.

watching the highlights, been some great ones recently but that third goal last night is mighty impressive. Played out under a bit of pressure (admittedly against ten men), lawless finds McMillan bursting forward, inch perfect cross that Tiffoney just has to scrape contact with to score.

Amazing stats flooding out all over right now and most of the post-Somerset updates are now in place at the Archive →

:detective:  JAGGERNAUT

● 100 years from the first competitive encounter, Thistle meet Ayr United for the 150th time.
● Now 339 days long, 2022-23 becomes the longest season ('All Games') on record. The previous record (338 days) was set in 1889-90. And it's not done yet ; - )
Jack McMillan reaches 50 competitive appearances in season 2022-23. He's only the second Jag to do so this century, following on from Grant Murray (51) in the promotion-winning season of 2005-06.
● Thistle have now scored in EIGHT consecutive first halves; you need to rewind to August 1971 to find a longer run (9).
● Bizarrely, 3 of Jack McMillan's 5 goals for the club have been scored in the last 4 games, all in the play-offs.
● It's now 12 direct goal involvements in his last 9 games for the incredible Scott Tiffoney who will now seek to register a counter in a 10th consecutive game in which he's appeared. His second goal of the night was his 25th goal for the club, all scored in competitive action.
Jack McMillan (12) and Kyle Turner (13) now sit 2nd and 1st with the highest assist tallies of any Jag in the last 10 seasons, and it's a fascinating battle between the two for this season's crown.
Kris Doolan's Jags have now scored two or more goals in seven consecutive competitive matches. You need to rewind to December 1967 to find a longer run (8, by Willie Thornton's boys). Jaggernaut.
● With their 3rd 'total football' goal of the night Partick Thistle FC set a new Scottish goals record for same-season play-off games, overtaking Forfar Athletic's 13-goal tally of 2016-17. The new record sits at 16 goals - where will it end?
● The maestro who is Steven Lawless hits the 44 competitive goals mark for Partick Thistle and enters the All-Time Top 50 goals chart. It's amazing to have two Jagsmen on the ascent simultaneously in the higher echelons - keep an eye on their progress in our illustrated chart from hereon.
Kevin Holt hits the 9 goal mark for 2022-23 and is the highest scoring Thistle defender since Scott McCulloch notched 10 in the promotion-winning season of 2005-06.
● The 5-0 scoreline sets a brand new away-win record in the H2H between these clubs.
● 3 consecutive wins to nil is a first for the season, and means that Partick Thistle match the Scottish record for successive wins to nil in the play-offs in any given season. 3-in-a-row was only ever achieved by Cove Rangers in 2018-19. No team has ever kept 4 clean-sheets in any given campaign.
● Partick Thistle match the Scottish record for successive wins in the play-offs in any given season. 4-in-a-row was first achieved by Cove Rangers (2018-19) then Kelty Hearts (2021-22).
Ian McCall/Kris Doolan's Jags become the 6th highest scoring Thistle team of all-time, now with 98 goals in all competitions 2022-23. It's the highest tally since Davie McParlands's Jags hit 100 goals in 1970-71. You can compare all seasons in our sortable results tables.
● We thought Alan Archibald's 1 defeat in 21 competitive matches would never be seen again at the start of a Partick Thistle manager's reign, but Kris Doolan is having a right good go with 1 defeat in 17 and counting…

ongoing sequences:
● 7 competitive home games without defeat; 4th Mar 2023 to date. (Longest run since: 7 games; 20th Mar 2021 to 29th Apr 2021. Club-record: 24 games; 5th May 2001 to 17th Aug 2002.)
● 10 competitive games without defeat, 1st Apr 2023 to date. (Longest run since: 10 games, 10th Apr 2013 to 16th Aug 2013. Joint club-record: 16 games, 15th Nov 1975 to 21st Feb 1976 & 30th Sep 2000 to 13th Jan 2001.)
● 50 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan, 9th Jul 2022 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: James Penrice - 51 games, 7th Sep 2019 to 10th Apr 2021. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

Some playoff performances so far Thistle and all without Harry who undoubtedly is a massive miss and would give you an extra threat.

If it's County in the final I'll be at the second leg. My mate, who I work with, is a Staggie and lives up in Dingwall so will go along with him.

How do you rate Cole? Likely to be loaned out again to a Championship side? He seemed fairly impressive at the start of the season but fell out of favour. He can play at tier 2 level I feel.

Any players likely to leave regardless of what level you are playing at? Clearly if you gain promotion you'd strengthen and release on the back of that.
