The Partick Thistle thread

Recommended Posts

First game at a ground we havent played at since March 2012 so there's a relative "novelty" factor.

Scottish cup always brings more folk out

One of the better away days in Scottish football

Will be first game after a 3 week break

I'd reckon ~1000 is a reasonable estimate even if our away support has been pretty poor this year. What did we take to Hibs? 1200?

Just wondering if there were rules in place or wether it would have been worthwhile to have brought forward the St Johnstone game from January?  It's squeezed in between the OF games and could have been played this weekend since they were due to play Motherwell this weekend before cup final teams got sorted.

24th Jan is home to Celtic, 27th Jan is away to St Johnstone, 31st Jan is home to Rangers

Thistle need to be pressing for this to be opened. Have very vague memories of being on that terrace  as a wee boy around 1988/9.

In other news, osman posted on Instagram that he's nearly fit which is obviously encouraging.

Good to read about Os - even better news that he's returning to football and sidelining his career in couture.

Sean Welsh played as a trialist tonight for Falkirk. Quick summery please? Would he be a decent enough signing? I thought he had some injury problems.

There's injury problems then there's Sean Welsh. It's been said on here before he has some sort of condition where it takes him longer to recover from knocks and the fact it's believed without any question tells you enough about him.

If you can get any sort of run of games out of him without him getting injured again he's a better midfielder than Mark Kerr or James Craigen without being anything spectacular.

If you can keep him fit, you should disband as a football club and become the world's leading sports rehab clinic.

Also - Muirhead, Balatoni, Craigen, now Welsh, if you're looking for other folk from our 2012/13 team Paul Slane might still be kicking around.

Sean Welsh isn't decent. He's magnificent.
Since that glorious day in 2012 when Sean Welsh signed for us the entire club has been on an constant upward trend in terms of better players, league placings, youth development and firm financial footing.
Now that he's gone we are bottom of the league, the players are  terrible and our multi-million pound Academy didn't attain Elite status.

Some will say it's all coincidence but it's really The Sean Welsh Effect.

The main Pro with Welsh is that he doesn't hide and will always show for the ball - something you probably need in your current predicament

Cons: Not the quickest so will frustrate you as you will lose goals to him not being able to track back, the rest of your set pieces will be shit floaty balls to the back post and as said he has a weird blood disease which effectivley means his body heals at a far reduced rate from knocks etc.

Apart from that he's meant to be a really sound guy

http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/celtic/15686563.Survey_reveals_Celtic_are_spending_more_than_twice_as_much_as_Rangers_on_wages/

Wage expenditure of Ladbrokes Premiership clubs

(World ranking/Average annual spend/Average weekly wage)

203 - Celtic - £735,040 / £14,135

256 - Rangers - £329,600 / £6,338

313 - Aberdeen - £136,382 / £2,623

316 - Hearts - £95,514 / £1,837

318 - Hibs - £87,100 / £1,675

334 - Dundee - £59,904 / £1,152

337 - Partick Thistle - £58,175 / £1,119

338 - Ross County - £56,394 / £1,085

341 - Kilmarnock - £55,100 / £1,060

346 - St Johnstone - £47,992 / £923

347 - Motherwell - £42,662 / £820

348 - Hamilton - £41,488 / £798

Find it hard to believe we are outspending that many teams on average in regards to wages tbh
