The Partick Thistle thread

Recommended Posts

It's time for part 10 of our Scottish Cup story where you'll meet Rab Bernard and John Bowie and take in the Quarter Final replay... Partick Thistle v Motherwell. Having recently organised a switch to Ibrox for the forthcoming home League fixture with Celtic, the directors had not anticipated any more huge crowds at Firhill this season, and a massive £30,000 ground improvements programme was underway, so this unplanned midweek replay was a matter of some inconvenience. Likewise, many of the fans wishing to attend, once again, had to rely on the goodwill of workmates who might be willing to swap afternoon shifts. Despite these hindrances, a huge crowd of some 30,000 gathered at the Fortress, the big majority willing Thistle on to their first-ever Scottish Cup semi-final. With the fourth and final place in tomorrow night's draw on the line, the stakes were massive...

The Day The Scottish Cup Came Up To Maryhill part 10 →

(also, watch out for part 11 which will be out tomorrow The Day The Scottish Cup Came Up To Maryhill part 11 → )

Thats Geggan confirmed.

If we had signed him at the start of the season i would have been fairly happy.

But we havent.

And we now have 4 right backs.  Or 4 defensive midfielders if he has been brought in to play there.

Are we just planning on shitfesting our way to a playoff or something? Grim.

I assume we’re planning on having him in midfield given we’ve called him a midfielder in the confirmation.

And, at this point, shitfesting our way to the playoffs is as good as we can hope for.

All this desperate signings because McCall has made a complete arse of it.

If we were signing Anderson, Spittal and McDaid in January and we are now signing these lads from the lowland leagues - time will tell if they were desperate or not- then some of it has come about because leagues were suspended- which means some of it was out of his hands

Let's be honest. The players he did sign for the new season weren't cutting it.

Not quite fair, as it’s previously been mentioned we had other signings (arguably more attractive) lined up that had to be kiboshed because the league was stopped. Additionally, there’s talk Docherty and Williamson may be out of a while. He’s clearly now making do with what he can get in what is a very difficult situation for all clubs, and given the fact they’ve not yet kicked a ball for us then we have no idea how they’ll turn out, hopefully they’ll be adequate enough signings to help us push for promotion.

Former player Gary Peebles is suggesting we might be signing Dobbie. Can’t see that.

Don’t see that happening, I’m not sure if he’s out of favour at QOTS but they’d probably be happy still to keep him around the squad.

Completely hypothetical of course, but I'd have liked to have seen our season had Declan Glass not been injured. Really seems like the sort of player we've been missing.

This season's been shite, even by our standards, but it's been pretty fine margins in most games. Had butterflies flapped their wings in other ways we might all be happier right now.

What's Gabriel Piccolo up to these days?

Retired actually, sadly enough.  Presumably decided to can his football career in lieu of his true calling - just being a fucking dreamboat.

I am also fully up for a Lowland league mercenary supermarket sweep.

Significantly less up for it if we're shopping almost exclusively in the defensive midfielders and defenders aisles.

He retired in his early 20s after leaving us, Niall Keown appears to have done the same (tho he did technically play for St J after us, he was on loan from us).

Thistle - we'll make you want to pack it in.
