Accepting that this is the Daily Record and just as likely to be drivel, if it turns out to be true then Scottish football has hit rock bottom. You cannot relegate teams when they have not played the same number of games as others. It is just ludicrous. Even more than announcing a reconstruction of the leagues after positions are known on an incomplete season. Much as having derbies back would make the league season more interesting this is not the way to do it. Very poor stuff.

while obviously it affects the players and fans to an extent, its the people behind the scenes in the background that will be laid off sadly.  If we had been relegated at the end of the season they would be able to say the players and manager had got them into that predicament.  With the 27 points to play for and game in hand its these people behind the scenes that will be out of work due to significant cost cutting that goes on who will be the real victims sadly.  Presumably be the same situation for non playing staff at Hearts and Falkirk as well if it goes through

Points per game average. As resulls have went this season your game in hand at ICT was never a guaranteed 3 points .....

Which is why we wouldn't insist on Queen of the South being relegated either you massive weapon.

So, just to summarise where we are at this point:

  • The SPFL called a vote and 3 Championship teams voted against their proposal, but the SPFL claim to have mysteriously not received the all-important third vote until later (after Dundee had emailed to cancel it - an hour after the fake deadline the SPFL tried to impose and 90 mins after they sent in their vote).
  • The SPFL have not provided any evidence of what they received and when but they did publish the incomplete vote totals while one or more votes were still (allegedly) to be received.
  • Yes votes are final, but No votes can be changed (with obvious implications for pressure to be imposed, and secret incentives to be offered and deals to be made).
  • League positions and pay outs were (for some reason) conflated into a single vote when they are two separate issues.
  • The SPFL has a loans function which it didn't advise clubs about prior to the vote.
  • No one from the SPFL or Dundee made any comment about what was happening for more than 3 days.
  • All teams in last position are to be relegated - except Brechin, who are furthest behind and whose Chairman is on the SPFL board.
  • Thistle, in a very "Thistle" situation, will be relegated having been 2 points behind with a game in hand.

Would it have been possible to make a bigger mess of this?

Unlikely to be a bigger mess, but it is possible to make a different one. If somehow they convince themselves there are no losers in the 14-14-14 structure that OF gob jockeys like Gordon Smith keep trotting out, then Clyde, Forfar and Peterhead will effectively be demoted to bottom league. Cove would also be declined entry to the second from bottom league and left in the bottom. The idea you can finish by inventing a new structure after the games have all been played and 'relegate' clubs into financial oblivion is different but just as criminal, not to mention incompetent.

If they want three leagues it has to be 14/18/10 or 12 if Kelty/Brora come up.

Presumably they don't have the funds to be able to employ staff for 2 seasons in League one.  The situation being that there was more than enough points left in League one for Falkirk to win it and thus be promoted and obtain far more income playing in the championship
