Ivo den Bieman
Kosovo have become the 55th member of UEFA after a narrow vote to accept their membership They will now apply for FIFA membership and presumably will aim for participation in the Euro 2020 qualifiers. Exiled Kosovars play in numbers for Switzerland, who apparently (and unsurprisingly) opposed their membership. Pristina will become the latest venue for Scotland to be humiliated in in years to come, then.
tamthebam
Scenes if they draw Serbia in the Qualifying Groups... Rita Ora is the best known Kosovan which is just an excuse to post this photo...
mizfit
Assume they'll be kept away from Serbia in qualifying.
MONKMAN
There's no way in hell they'll be allowed to play in the same group as Serbia. Ethnic cleansing and genocide seen to that. I'm yet to see a valid reason though, for Spain being kept away from Gibraltar.

Considering how Januzaj's career has gone since he hit the limelight he'd be smart to get out of the Belgium set up if he wants to get some caps. I'm not sure whether the Swiss players would actually go seeing as they might not be eligible for FIFA tournaments. On a segway here but, in the very, very, very unlikely event of Yugoslavia coming back together they would have had one hell of a national team to choose from... DiegoDiego
Great news for Kosovo and great news for me. I've plans to be in Pristina on June 3rd, which happens to be the date of their first match as UEFA members (friendly vs Faroes).

Is there anything confirming either way whether or not they would be allowed to compete? As stated elsewhere, the Swiss obviously opposed membership for reasons of self preservation. Their team would be mince if they lost the guys eligible for Kosovo.

FIFA recognition for Kosovo (and Gibraltar) may come next week. The bulk of the Albanian team are Kosovan born but there is already an agreement in place that Kosovo won't call up any players with Albanian caps. They've got UEFA membership but aren't full Fifa members yet like Gibraltar. Gibraltar have just won a legal battle at the CAS so they could get in pretty soon. Not sure about the timeframe for these things and whether they'll get in time for 2018/2022.

forameus
Unless there was some kind of caps amnesty with players allowed to represent them no matter what (which shouldn't happen), then they're probably going to be in the diddy bracket for a while. craigkillie
Why shouldn't that happen? If a player chose to represent a different country because his actual country didn't exist in international terms, then it seems fair enough to let him switch within a given time window. Could cause absolute chaos across several national teams if they let them switch. Has it been confirmed whether they will be allowed to move? lionel hutz
They're a country that has a recognition of 108 members of the UN and just Russia and China are stopping them to become UN members.Absolute scenes if Jersey were ever allowed membership, they've got more of right to be UEFA/FIFA members than Gibraltar. craigkillie
Kosovo are no marks just like Gibraltar. They'll end up at an Albania/Macedonia level as a bare minimum IMO. Look at all the players across Europe with Kosovan heritage.
