sfha
These 'franchise changes' have generally failed over time. Gateshead were originally South Shields, who were moved the 14 miles or so. but they went bust in the 1960s. But closer to home, again in the 1960s, the failing East Stirling (yes them again) were moved to Clydebank, (yes them also), and renamed ES Clydebank. Despite being 100% more successful, a resulting court case saw the new club dismantled and moved back to Falkirk, where they went on to achieve very, very little. In this case, the move worked, but for how long we were not allowed to see.

ComeoanGetafe
The Gateshead who folded in the 1960's were the original Gateshead, who were nothing to do with South Shields, who played in the old Northern Premier until the 1970's. The original Gateshead had been voted out of the Football League earlier in the 60's and had gravitated around various non - league setups until finally giving up. The final days were full of sad reports about the club having difficulty reimbursing players for the petrol on shared car journeys to some fairly distant venues in one of the Midlands leagues. This demise also marked the end of the original ground, Redheugh Park. The "merger" between Gateshead and South Shields took place sometime in the 1970's, with the "new" club playing at Gateshead Stadium, as they still do - having reached the national League/Conference - and indeed the play offs a couple of years back. A new South Shields club was eventually formed to play in the Northern League, originally at Filtrona Stadium. I have lost contact with their present whereabouts, or even know whether they are still at Filtrona.

South Shields play at mariners Park (still Filtrona but renamed) in the town after a few seasons at Peterlee. Julio Arca with premiership experience is playing doon there these days. They have just been promoted to the northern league division 1. They had a crowd of 1800 at a recent match.
newcastle broon
No room for another Edinburgh club I'm afraid. Over 4 figures was yesterday's crowd albeit a play off final. Still a decent shout for a 3rd Edinburgh team

WaffenThinMint
This needs clarification, I wonder who could do this? hibeehorn.jpg This one's been done to death, Zen Archer, but to cut a long story short, the Steedman brothers - who were majority shareholders at East Stirlingshire and had taken them for one whole season into Division 1 - talked Clydebank (one of the big guns of the Juniors in those days), or rather some of their committee, into a merger, with the new club moving down to Kilbowie. The lawyer Robert Turpie (who helped the five clubs Rangers tried to have kicked out of the league several years earlier) helped the other Shire shareholders to fight the merger in court, but the 1964-65 season still went ahead with the ludicrous merger as the court case dragged on throughout the year. Clydebank had to come back in 1966 as a individual club as East Stirling regained their independent status.

PRS
Over 4 figures was yesterday's crowd albeit a play off final. Still a decent shout for a 3rd Edinburgh team I think the problem in attracting a new support is in part where they play. Meadowbank is a soulless ground with no atmosphere, cold as hell and far removed from the field of play.
HibeeJibee
It'll be better* if/when the council rebuild the place. Plan is for a grandstand of similar size to those at Galabank, Balmoor and Ochilview. *except for us lovers of monumentalist stadium design Incidentally - is the council's plan still just a single 500-seat stand? City have approached/exceeded that many times in recent years: 500 - Scottish Cup v Stirling Albion 1,027 - Scottish Cup v Montrose 775 - Scottish Cup v Irvine Meadow 1,038 - Scottish Cup v Queen of the South 573 - Scottish Cup v Auchinleck Talbot 601 - Scottish Cup v Brora Rangers 908 - playoff v Brora Rangers 420 - Lowland League v East Kilbride 839 - playoff v Cove Rangers 1,090 - playoff v East Stirlingshire
