ancient
Here's a theory about Celts. Maybe you can offer input or comments. Tanistry continues with Ireland's Tanaiste deputy PM. Thanes probably came with Danes /Vikings as with the English in Aethelstan's Law. The 2 ethnic groups had one but not both forms of polities. Although the word path came from Scythian people to Germanic languages this does not seem to be the case for tanist / thane .Otherwise both words would likely be used in either Celt or German languages. So it appears that Scythians borrowed at least one of these. And Scythes didn't merge the ideas into 1 concept , even though Scottish tanistry was becoming like a form of thane . That's about half-way into the theory so I'll leave it there for the moment . What say you?

Jute
No such thing as "Celts". Victorian phrase made up to conjure up romanticism. Thought it was the Greeks who used the word Celt to describe the non Greek tribes north of the Danube.
