Post Split Fixtures

Recommended Posts

One game left to play officially before the split commences - it won't have any effect on anything, however, as we now know our top six and bottom 6 teams.

Anyone know when the post split fixtures are released?

There won't be imbalances in home and away matches this season. St Johnstone will probably go to Tynecastle for a third time and Ross County to Celtic Park for a third time to balance things up.

It should be this evening but Mr Doncaster will do what he did last year. Probably be either Wednesday or Thursday.

Yeah, this season should work out with every team playing 19 home and 19 away games. Based on how many home and away games each team has played and what teams are due to play each other home and away, it's possible to work out the likely changes.

The big question is will they get the Derby out of the way early or gamble that if its last that there's nothing to play for because it's decided.

This could still be very funny or very scary now that Killie and the Accies have won games.

Killie vs United will be the first game

The derby will probably be the third last game, which should be the game to officially relegate us.

We've only played Ross County at Tynecastle once. It'll be Celtic v Ross County and Hearts v St Johnstone.

You're right, got mixed up with all the permutations. Harsh on Ross County having to go there for a third time - hardly a fitting reward for making the top half.

Is there any permutation that means Dundee can end up in the play off spot?

Dundee losing all their games, Killie picking up another 7 points, and Hamilton picking up another three from their four games.

Killie would need to win 3 out of 5 plus a draw and Dundee to lose all their games. Given that Killie have won only once in 7 games plus we have a habit of picking up draws I personally can't see it happening.

But then stranger things have happened in the past. If we were in freefall ala Hibs I'd be worried but we're not.

It's interesting that, given these six teams are so tightly packed together, it's the three teams that have played an extra home game that eventually made it over three teams that had an extra away game. I'm not against the split in principle but I'm not a fan of playing an odd number of matches before and after it.

Still not a proper league that you can play sides three times at home and once away or vise versa. The split would be fine if it was even and above board but it's not.

Over the course of a season teams blow hot and cold but when you play a team in form after the split and end up playing them 3 times at home or away then it's either an unfair advantage or a unfair disadvantage.

Next season with Rangers potentially involved in top six for the first time they could meet Celtic three times either home or away especially if the title is between Aberdeen & Celtic going by the current rules.  However we all know this would not be allowed to happen therefore the split is wrong and a solution needed before next season.

The fact that Celtic & Rangers were the only two clubs to be guaranteed not to have to travel to each other's grounds more than twice a season as everyone else did was what made a mockery of the split and the top league. No doubt it will be back to that way next season.
