Fully supports the idea that our national team shouldn't have a designated venue altogether. I believe the ideal situation is that our national team tour the stadiums on offer within out country in order to allow fans from various areas the opportunity to watch various matches.

All well and good but there's only 4 stadiums capable of hosting competitive matches, 3 in Glasgow and 1 in Edinburgh, the rest are too small.

I have zero understanding about rugby.  Don’t they play rugby in football stadiums with smaller pitch?

Why does Murrayfield have such a big pitch?

Murrayfields in goal areas are the biggest in world rugby. It's noticeable when playing at football grounds the in goal areas are tiny.

Not necessarily a bad idea, but the problem is that touring the country probably wouldn't work because for big games there are only really two or three viable alternatives to Hampden, two of which are in Glasgow and one of which is in Edinburgh.

I admire the idea of touring the country and offering it to different stadiums etc, but the problem is that the vast majority of Scotland's population is situated within the Central Belt, and for competitive games there aren't any stadiums outwith the central belt that can hold them. Pittodrie for a friendly or two would be reasonable, but by putting it there you're going to automatically be a lot more unlikely to attract a lot of people from where the vast majority of Scotland's population is. Which isn't really helpful.

Nope. That's why Dortmund, Munich et al have "safe standing" sections - so they can revert back to seating for European and International games.

That's a pisser. Surely standing should be allowed again at the football after the Hillsborough inquiry found that it had f**k all to do with standing on a terrace and everything to do with how it was policed?

You'd like to think so but UEFA and FIFA I'm sure would rather all internationals were played in front of an entirely corporate audience so I can't see them change their mind any time soon.

To be honest putting the seats down have in the standing section have little difference. Im in the standing section at CP and people still stand somebody usually has a key to lock them back up again.

Back to binning Hampden, it sounds like basically Hampden has become more costly going by recent articles. Choosing a stadium on a game by game basis sounds quite interesting from a fans point of view. For lower attendance game they can play Aberdeen and the two Edinburgh games off each other for the best deal. The same can go for the higher end  with Sevco and Queens Park. When its a guaranteed sell out they can cash in with Murrayfield or Celtic Park.

If they're worried about the cost of the upkeep of Hampden they could just let the place go to shit, like Celtic Park and Ibrox.

I take you haven't been to Celtic park for a few years, its looking better than ever with hotel/museum etc in the post.

Not been there since Scotland last played there. It's looking much better out the front since the commonwealth games, but unless things have changed massively in the last couple of years, most of the stadium is still in pretty shoddy condition.

It didn't help that after the Ireland game the police directed us out the back of one side, in the dark, with no clue where were being directed - ended up with a few hundred fans trying to get up a steep muddy hill in the pitch dark beside where work was taking place beside the Emirates to try to get back to somewhere with some light.

Ibrox is worse though. It's like a falling apart council building. Last time we were there the police kept us behind for 15 minutes and escorted us out - seems like that's what happens when you question policing standards in your previous visit to Ibrox.

All in all, my stadium experiences at both haven't been great. What Hampden does have going for it is that it does have more of a modern feel to it. I also have to be honest and say that my tickets for the last few campaigns have been right on the half way line 2/3 up the North Stand - perfect viewing position, easy access, always a good stadium experience.

Whilst Celtic park is never going to win any architectural design awards, it is still great as a stadium for atmosphere and most seats have a far superior view than Hampden.

The condition of it and the surrounding area seems to be picking up every season so the ‘shoddy condition’ doesnt really stand up Im afraid.

Whilst Ibrox appears to be falling apart I would still prefer it for atmosphere than Hampden. It is also far easier to access.

You also mention Hampden has a more modern feel to it, thats pretty low on my interests in a stadium. As for views Hampden in general has the worst out the three for me.

A large chunk fell off of the side of parkhead last season.....

There appears to be a campaign underway to talk up parkhead and denigrate Ibrox .... Neither should be the national stadium tho.

Hampden is the national stadium and hopefully Scottish football fans stand up for it.

You probably havent been to Ibrox, let alone Parkhead past few years.

Seems like fans don't want Scotland to continue at Hampden, at least according to a survey by Scottish Football Supporters Association...although I don't know who they are so have no idea if they have an agenda.

34% fancy playing at Murrayfield with just 15% wanting to stay at Hampden

24% apparently want a new Hampden built. Anyone have a spare £100M laying around?

How were England’s, Wales, Northern and Republics grounds funded. There must be a way.

I have no idea. Tax payers? Lottery? The Magic Money Tree?

If there is a spare £100M or whatever knocking around I'd rather it was spent on player development rather than building a white elephant in Glasgow
