Good to hear! My next purchase will be a good 4k TV - got about £800 to spend so i reckon that should hopefully get me something decent for my Sky Q

I bought a new tv not long before I got Sky Q. Wish I'd held off and gone for a 4K one instead

Just move that TV to somewhere else in the house and buy a new 4k one. You know it makes sense.....

I wish! We dont actually have tvs in any other rooms of the house. The kids would kill for one in their rooms but we're holding off as long as possible.

I might go for a new monitor and hook the spare Q box up to that instead

I love it. A couple of times the mini box has lost its EPG but switching it off and on again has fixed it.

Have you given up on 3D tv Mr X ? Seems to have died a death ( again )

Thinking about 4K. It's another one of those need it v want it conundrums which want it will eventually win

Not exactly, the TV Ive just bought has 3D. We dont use it an awful lot but with a bunch of 3D blu-rays it seemed a bit stupid to abandon it altogether.

I didnt realise at the time that Sky would be broadcasting 4K so soon.

Yeah! Ive got about half a dozen 3D Blu-Rays but don't know how often I will watch them again.

Had a wee look at Currys Braehead this morning. I'm not so sure that 4K is so so much better than the tv I've got just now.

Techradar seems to think 3D is dead but suggest that in the not too distant future VR could be in tellys as well as gamins machines.

Now! That would be something to get excited about.

I had to call Sky as I lost the EPG and just got a spinning circle.  I was put through to a "tech specialist" who said it's a known problem they're working on with Sky Q.  He said you just have to unplug the Silver box then the mini box and leave them unplugged for 3 minutes then switch it all back on again.  That's the only workaround they have, but he offered me a full refund on thr TV aspect of my Sky bill up to the end of July, when they hope to have a permanent fix.

Worth a bash, lads?

I've ordered this, getting it installed in a fortnight as it will basically reduce my monthly Sky bill it seemed a good idea.

So currently I have three Sky HD boxes.

In the new setup I will have 1xSilver and 2 Minis. I have one 4K TV which I bought late last year.

Should I connect the Silver box to the 4K TV and the minis to the other two which are just bog standard HD sets or does it not matter?

Not sure it matters. All the streams come through the silver box. To be on the safe side, though, Id plug the silver box into the 4K tv

Also how does BT Sport work on this? Currently I can only watch it on one Sky box. With Sky Q can you watch it on any of the boxes?

Is that BT 1 or Euro and 2 that you pay extra for?

I've got all the BT stuff. Got it free last season because I have BT broadband and I think it's £5 a month this year.

I've got much the same set up. I can see an ultra HD option under the sky box set tab on the main box but not on the mini .

Do you find 4K to be vastly better than standard HD? I'm still at the swithering about it stage

I haven't seen anything in 4K yet to tell you mate. I only bought the 4K set because it wasn't much more expensive than a normal one and I wanted to future proof myself as much as possible. I've just upgraded my Netflix account to include Ultra-HD and as you've kindly pointed out, that's where I'll be putting the Sky Q Silver Box when it arrives so I'll let you know!

You can fwd 24 hours by pressing the FF button. No idea what the orange things all about!

Magic. Coloured buttons are missed.
On sky hd epg you had an option to show true hd programmes as orange so they stood out. Option seems to have gone.
Oh and you cant record or pause manually tuned channels on sky q

Maybe they removed that option because its not the 1990s anymore :P

You can filter by HD channels on the EPG, not sure why you'd need anything more.

Make sure you set the output on the Q box to the right resolution - it has 1080p or 4K if you have a 4K tv
