They could, especially as they tried Whitletts first before going to Lugar. It would only be one or two boys though? Whitletts are well run and can pick and choose which players they want rather than being dictated to

Being well run and putting a winning team on the pitch are two totally deifferent things. If they have the chance of a few players pushing towards the upper end of the pro youth spectrum they will utilise this I am sure as Neil Duffy will know the quality that the player of this level offers.

Listening to the talk at yesterdays game Lugar are not kicking Ayr out .Lugar want to take control of the team. There will still be an Ayr United connection with some players being farmed out

Hearing a wee rumour Lugar kicking Ayr Utd out at the end of the season, new man coming in and first signing is a local Ardagh group members goalkeeper ?

So, you're making a comeback. Keith. Interesting, considering your past history (On here especially)

100% true that LUGAR are ending the relationship at the end of the season. Staff and players were told last week. Not sure who the committee are that made that strange decision, if there actually is a committee. One teams loss another ones gain for me.

From the outside it doesn't seem very sustainable for the club's identity to put out a team almost solely comprised of teenagers belonging to another club. No continuity from year to year, no building for the future of the feeder club etc... For the parent club also, what's in it for them? The majority of the U20 group will be playing Junior anyway within a few years and anyone good enough for League 1 / Championship may already be in the 1st team set-up and players closer to that stage but not yet ready are likely farmed out to a bigger club e.g. Talbot, Cumnock, 'Ford, Glens.

Players aged 16-19 at Ayr in 2012-13 (some older ones signed from elsewhere) and where they are now:

Ewan Bain: ?

Darren Brownlie: QOS

Robbie Crawford: still at Ayr

Dillan Dunn: Craigmark

Marc Dyer: Craigmark

Adam Hunter: out injured, at Arbroath in 2014/15

Jackson Longridge: Livingston

Darren McGill: Glenafton

Bobby McLatchie: Cumnock last season

Anthony Marenghi: Stenhousemuir

Andy Muir: still at Ayr

Willie Muir: Queen's Park

Alan Murdoch: Arthurlie, loaned to SBA

Ryan Nisbet: still at Ayr, was loaned to Hurlford

Roddy Paterson: Maybole

Mark Shankland: Talbot

Neil Slooves: ?

Mick Wardrope: still at Ayr, loaned to Glens

Aaron Wyllie: was at Troon earlier this season

So 4/19 still there, maybe 4 out the game, another 8 or so signed as Juniors this season, a few playing at a higher or lower SPFL level.

The club wouldn't have had an identity of this agreement hadn't been put in place. Maybe the club ending it just a wee bit too soon, but great that they are back on their feet and can get back to being what they were.

Not denying that but all I'm saying is it could only be a short term measure.

At least 12 of your U20 squad play Saturday footie at Lugar, then play U20 midweek. Another 5 or so have been loaned to bigger Junior clubs.

Didn't know that. I obviously knew about the likes of Nesbit being on loan to Hurlford and the lad at Glenafton, but didn't know so many were at Lugar

Just by looking at what AUFC U20 line-ups I can see (e.g. http://www.aufa.org.uk/2016/02/academy-20s-battle-to-stranraer-stalemate/) and the odd one I can find from LBT this season (e.g. http://www.ardrossanherald.com/sport/13808705.Saltcoats_Vics_battle_back_for_a_point/ ), names are:

Kwame Antoine, Lyle Avci, Jamie Ballantyne, Stuart Faulds, James Hilton, Andrew Johnstone, Lewis Kerr, Luke McCowan, Stevie McCreadie, Sean McKenzie, David Waite and Gordon Young.

no idea if they're all still there or even still AU players.
