Weird Coincidences

Several completely random meetings with people around the world, that are all weird coincidences.

Sitting on a packed Bondi beach in the heigh of summer, got speaking to a group of girls from the South of England. When I mentioned I was from Dumfries, one of the girls said her Auntie and Uncle lived there, and were both teachers at one of the secondary schools. Turns out her Auntie and Uncle had both taught me at some point in secondary school.

I bumped into a scouse girl at Creamfields while I was eccied out my tits, that I'd met and spent a bit of time travelling Australia with some years previously. She was slightly pissed off, that in my drug addled state I had no notion to speak to her, or generally care what she'd been up to in the years since I'd last seen her.

Met a girl on Fraser Island Australia, that I had been speaking to in a bar in Kuala Lumpur about 6 months previously.

While we were in Thailand last summer, my mate met a Brazilian guy on Phi Phi that he'd lived with in Cusco in Peru for 3 months. He hadn't spoken to him in about 3 years.

Others not involving me personally;

My Auntie and Uncle were walking down Rodeo drive in Beverly Hills and they met a man she was at school with, and hadn't seen in 20 odd years.

Watching the Queens Aberdeen Scottish cup semi-final in the corner of casino bar in Perth Australia, my brother got speaking to the only other person watching the game. It turns out the other man lives 2 streets away from my brother in Dumfries.

Things like this absolutely fascinate me.

I was in a particularly quiet shop in Edinburgh one Saturday morning (maybe an art shop/poster shop). Two lads (who had clearly enjoyed a night out or had started boozing very early) burst in and shouted 'Angus' (my name), followed by a rambling stream of abuse. Being a yob at heart I rose to the bait. The two of them suddenly seemed quite scared. It turns out they were just quoting a line from Highlander for a laugh, had no idea I was called Angus and were in no way after a scrap in the art shop.

MONKMAN - When i was in Australia i bumped randomly into 2 random folk from home but at the time i wasn't as fascinated as you were.

The first guy was in a pretty popular pub in Sydney - this un mistakable guy who was 2 years older than me who i constantly saw on nights out in Glasgow walked in and the surprise/excitement was amazing at the time but a sensible head the next day told me it wasn't really that big a coincidence.

The second was a girl who was same year as me i bumped into her at St Kilda.

Basically its not that surprising to bump into people from back home who are in very popular tourist destinations. Going on a working holiday to Australia really is a common thing - and to bump into them in a busy place like Bondi beach etc isn't as much of a coincidence - although your story about meeting people you didn't know you still sought out people from the UK so the coincidence isn't as big as you thought at the time although the excitement can be rather large.

I live in Edinburgh and almost never see anyone i went to school with, the contrast between living here and in the West End of Glasgow in terms of seeing folk i went to school with is absolutely vast. If you bumped into these people in a rare part of France/Belgium would be far more of a coincidence but you wouldnt think it was that crazy as you are only an hour or so flight away form home.

I met so many people when in Oz and New Zealand who were out and met someone from school in a popular place like Bondi Junction or St Kilda but its where everyone goes so the coincidence is as big as it would seem at the time. Even travelling Thailand there are only certain parts that people will visit so there is a fair chance you can bump into people as tourists seek out the places popular on Trip Advisor.

When I was travelling in Spain years ago I met a few Irish blokes who were staying in the same hostel as myself. Had a couple of nights out together, generally had a laugh.

I left Valencia about a week later, but decided maybe seven months later to return, as I loved the city and was told there would be work for me.

I was sitting in the lounge having a beer when I started talking to a guy who had just checked in. As I had been there before a few folk were asking where to go, what to do etc... and I mentioned a nightclub I had been to some months previously. Started telling a story about what had happened one night I was out with the Irish boys, probably the first time I had thought about that night or any of the blokes in months.

Anyway, literally ten minutes later I was making a sandwich and one of the Irish guys walked into the kitchen.

Not quite the same as others but I found it mental that I had just been speaking about him and he showed up.

And Adam what i i said before is the same that applies - the only coincidence that happened there is that you chose to go back to this area and not meeting the same crowd. There really isn't anything missing here and there is no weird coincidence but human nature makes you believe that this is somewhat of a bizarre experience.

Went for an interview and the manager had gone to the same college as me a good few years before (the job was nothing to do with what I had done at college), we got talking about it after the interview and I knew there would really only have been 1 of the lecturers still there from when he was there. I had left college a good year and half since the interview but hadn't seen this lecturer ever since. I asked him if he was ever taught by the him and that he was a brilliant lecturer. Just at that moment we walked round the corner and he was the only person stood in the shop.

Outside a hotel in Washington DC, having a smoke a lady asked me for a light, she asked me where I was from and I told her Greenock, she was originally from Greenock told me that she moved to DC 30 odd years ago and asked my family name, I told her and she told me of a family with that name... Told me a lady and 1 her sons names....and that the lady had twin sons, but couldn't remember their names....I told her the twins names...she remembered them lovely wee boys.... I knew the names very well, I was 1 of the twins!!! Unbelievable!!! she knew my mother well from before she emigrated to the states, I was in high school with her niece who also lived nearby in Virginia beach

I'm calling bullshit on this.

Before you dismiss it as a fabrication, try and look at some of the facts available

Bush(es), Cheney Rumsfeld CIA FBI et al were all in on it with Mossad. Unfortunately, like in the UK, the Establishment protects their own.

I am starting this thread because of the strangest thing that happened this week, and would like to know if anyone has a more bizarre story....On Monday, we had SkyQ installed and when was setting up the app on our tablet I picked a channel to tune to at random. I'd picked Channel 5 and it was midway through some "neighbours from hell" type program. There was a shot showing a road I recognised instantly as the main road through Moodiesburn, just yards from where my Great Auntie (now deceased) house is. That's a bit of coincidence, but hardly worth starting this thread for. I watched the remainder of the segment regarding feuding over late night use of weed killer which resulted in a stabbing. This is where we get weird. My old man contacted me Wednesday and asked if I would go through with him to check on the property as it is needing some work done. So on Thursday, we are through and checking the mail we find a large envelope, wrongly delivered (with just "The ******** Family" on the front, but not recognising the name as any of our neighbours) there was a return address label with the name of the person involved in the stabbing referred to in Monday's program. Chances?I got the job of returning the envelope. The address was a few streets away.So to have so many variables falling into place is what makes this so strange 1. Being off work (pretty rare) 2. Watching daytime TV (rarer still) 3. Picking channel at precise moment shot of the street occurs (astronomical odds - any other part of program and I'd have channel hopped) 4. Dad asking me through to the house (not been for over a year) 5. Wrong delivery to the house (a few hundred other houses to choose from)

I find that quite a common story, people meeting the same people on another holiday. But probably not as strange as it sounds, these people probably go on holiday the same time every year and to likeminded resorts so not really surprising when this happens.

You also need to think about how often coincidences don't happen - basically every second you are in public you might bump into someone you have met before but you almost always don't.

I've had four serious, long term relationships and the birthdays of the women concerned were the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th of January.

Any lassies on here born on 13th January, pm Ya Bezzer.

My girlfriend and her mum share the same birthday, my sister and her husband share the same birthday and so does my niece and my cousin.

I've 2 cousins who share my birthday. Birthday sharing within families is fairly common apparently, no idea why.
