Cowdenbeath v airdrieonians

Recommended Posts

Not wanting to derail the thread with talk of things that happened 20 years ago but I don't think it is a fair accusation to say that Broomfield was sold for the personal gain of the shareholders at the time, the shareholders I know did not make any money out the sale. If they had wanted to profit from the sale they could have liquidated the club in 1994 after the sale of the ground and taken a share of the £5 million pounds. Instead the club was liquidated after the money was spent and the shares were completely worthless. Anyway, hope EWB is on the mend soon.

I felt sorry for Nishy too. He looked depressed when I went to see him this afternoon to give a birthday card to him...

I was nearly crying when Airdrie scored the 3rd one :(

Why would we care if it satisfies premier league criteria? You think we will be in it in the forseeable future?

Possibly yes. Everyone would have laughed at the thought of Hamilton getting their years ago but they managed to do it it's not out off the question. The new chairman and ewb are put in similar foundations of which Hamilton did. Most Airdrie fans would have took play off position before a ball was kicked and we could potentially go up this year. If you want go boxing fair play to you but for me I had nothing but pride and thoughts for eddie for the way the team went about their business yesterday.

I thought we passed the really well at times yesterday, and played about as well as I've seen us play this season. For the players to go out and give such a good performance in the second half with what had happened with EWB at the back of their minds was very impressive, and credit is due to them for it. Fair play to Cowden as well, offering to abandon the match.

Going with a 4-3-3 was the right choice. I guess this may be a horses for courses thing that we'll use against teams we can expect to beat (like Forfar and Brechin in our next two games), and we'll maybe still be more conservative against better teams - who knows? We'll see. But it certainly worked yesterday. Faria broke up play very well, and the front three did a good job (though Cadden really needs to work on his shooting. He sends a lot of his efforts high and wide). The star player was clearly Thompson, who was as much a cut above the rest as Murdoch had been the last time we played at Central Park. His goal was probably the best I've seen us score this season, and he created the other two for Lister (who did well to take them).

If the BBC stats are right, Cowdenbeath didn't have a single corner (and I certainly don't remember any). Seems like we've finally found a way to prevent us losing goals at corners, then!

The defence was reasonably solid, though Ferguson seemed to lose his man for their goal. They also got behind our defence a couple of times after their number 15 came on, and will be disappointed at not having taken those chances. Still, I suppose not being able to take chances is one of the reasons they are where are they are in the league.
Likewise their goalkeeper. I understand he's pretty far down the pecking order at Cowden, but that third goal was a shocker.

Cowdenbeath really do look fit to be relegated on yesterday's showing. I know they have players out, but they really need to get their act together if they want to stay up. They're missing Murdoch badly.

Hopefully that will have given our team some confidence that we can take into the Tuesday's game against Forfar. We really need to be looking at two wins against Forfar and Brechin before tricky games with Peterhead and the Rovers.

More importantly, hope EWB has a swift and full recovery.

Tests have confirmed that Eddie suffered a stroke and he has been transferred to a specialist stroke central at Edinburgh Western General Hospital

That's sad. The main thing, though, is that he received swift attention. This will greatly increase his chances of making a full recovery. Hope so.

Sad news to hear about Eddie Wolecki but good to hear that he is in a stable condition. A popular figure at Links Park and all of Scottish football; a student of the game and a gentleman.

Our thoughts are with his family.

Also, hopefully someone kept him abreast of the info that Airdrie won, Montrose won and Ar****th got beat. I'm sure that would have cheered him up ????

Highlights from the game. You can't leave Jim Lister with as much space in the box as Cowden allowed him for our second goal and not expect to be punished for it.

Also, Thompson's goal was truly excellent.

Oaft! Lister certainly seemed to boss that one, can't decide if it was because he was really good or Cowden were really bad? Will give big Jim the benefit of the doubt on this one. First goal was a cracker but what was the keeper doing at the 3rd goal? Anyway based on the highlights seemed like the correct result this time.

First goal was a cracker, why did everyone back off the player though. If we had Airdrie's defence that goal wouldn't have been scored. We did get a couple of decent chances but the Airdrie defenders were really quick in closing everything down.

Any more news on your manager?
