AMMjag Posted February 20, 2016 Share Posted February 20, 2016 I'm not too sure why there seems to be some in Scotland who think voting to stay but being forced to leave through the demand of a much larger English electorate = bad, whilst staying but having our terms of membership renegotiated by a Tory PM, under considerable pressure from his own party and with no credible mandate in Scotland = acceptable. Neither is a terribly fair set of circumstances for Scotland, and we have to make an alternative, (especially) pro-immigration argument that just isn't anywhere to be seen on the wider UK debate. I must have missed when 'British only' became the dominant national identity in any constituent part of the United Kingdom. Or not even that, why people even bothered campaigning for a devolved parliament nearly 20 years ago. I'm thinking in terms of what we have and whether the decision we make (everyone who has a vote) effects us (everyone who has a vote) in a good or a bad way. We will vote on this as the UK so why should it matter how the vote is split ? We had the chance to leave the UK and become part of the EU as Scotland and voted overwhelmingly against it. Furthermore we knew at that point that an EU referendum was likely and still chose to remain within the UK. That means for things like this we are voting as part of the UK, not Scotland. I have to do some work deep daan saaath over the next few months and hope to take in some heads gone street racism/campaigning. In. We need to be looking for stronger ties with Europe and weaker ones with Westminster. That our government spent this summit demanding selfish minutiae to appease infighting in their party and to paint the stretch on resources as the fault of "BLOODY FOREIGNERS, coming over here...." while the biggest refugee crisis since WWII unfolds shames us and disgraces Cameron and his Eton cronies.
