I think it’s quite a modest salary package for the hassle involved, not to mention the disruption to family life.

A friend of mine was an MSP and resigned prior to the last Scottish elections and, from what she told me, it was anything but a cushy number. Constituents were constantly in touch and you really had to be on your toes 24/7.
You do have assistants but there really is ‘no hiding place’.

Didn't bother Ruth Davidson.

Just reading an article about the problems of hiring teaching assistants in English schools due to the low wages and the potentially serious impact this could have.

Do Scottish schools employ TAs?

Not sure if it's genuinely political and I suppose some of JCs recent comments have kinda signposted this but FFS

Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle said the use of racial terms "causes offence" and reminded MPs about "choosing the words they use carefully", before telling Ian Blackford to f**k off back to Jockoland

This is an interesting read:

I particularly enjoyed the irony of this:

But the discomfort shows that some Tories feel their party doesn’t know what it stands for any more, to the extent that it will struggle to differentiate itself from Labour at the next election. “Why would you vote for us offering Labour-lite policies when you can get the real thing?” complains one senior rebel.

That’s absolutely correct.

We now have a supposed Tory government dishing out Brownite Labour policies.

Taxes at all-time high, public expenditure through the roof, the state controlling everything.
For any socialist this is manna from heaven.

I think the Conservatives will lose the next election and someone like Farage will become leader of the Real Conservatives.

Looking back, all the money dished out during Covid lockdowns to pay people to do zilch was completely wasted and counterproductive.

They will lose but if that defeat resulted in the party completely imploding as you seem to be suggesting then they would be finished for a long, long time.

I wouldn't fret - he'll be suggesting the opposite next week. Like Douglas Ross, this one spins like a top to suit the tory mood du jour.

Absolutely. Things do change and I certainly change my views depending on circumstances.

Im certainly not someone who would vote for the same party come what may because I’ve always done so.

Ive voted Labour, Liberal (bad mistake), Conservative, UKIP, various Independents, not SNP but never say never especially as they’re now opening the door on a two tier health service.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the Commons Speaker, started by saying that MPs are not allowed a criticise a member of the House of Lords unless they are debating a motion specifically referring to that peer.

I recently found out that the speaker is allowed to have an alcoholic drink in the chamber during the budget, and they usually do. I’m very disappointed that they haven’t gone for a holiday style pina colada with umbrellas and sparklers and served in a pineapple.
