I read about that in the LRB. I guess you have to factor in that Cameron might've been making it up but if it's true then it just highlights how utterly out of his depth that Clegg was.

Aye I'm open to the fact it's not true, the programme framed it humorously though because they had Osbourne claim it then showed Nick Clegg saying that's not what happened and he may have muttered something then it cuts to Cameron directly quoting him.

It was quite interesting to hear Clegg almost double down and support the policy even now, they also have Hague taking credit for convincing them to join a coalition in the first place giving off the implication he was aware this would ruin any chances they had in future elections. I was only 17/18 at the time so didn't fully appreciate how much of a short sighted power grab it seemed to be from the top boys at the Lib Dems, I'm pretty sure I voted for them at the time because Michael Moore was a good local MP too.

A rare victory for the little guy with the UK ruling on Uber? (blatantly their drivers employees under the badges of trade i guess rather than WWE style """independent contractors""')

Seen their press release talking about how proud they were about this? Like they didn't fight tooth and nail to prevent it. f**k Uber.

I definitely bought into Cleggmania because I was 18 and a moron. I still remember on here that people were insisting the Tories mathematically couldn't win a majority and there was a perception that they couldn't govern on their own. Cameron did look a bit surprised to get a majority in 2015. I still think the EU ref was put in there with the hope that they would be blocked by coalition partners.

The change in the electorate since 2010 and even 2015 is all down to the Tory/Right winning the culture war in an absolute rout.

They obviously have every advantage but a lot of people are in denial about what they have achieved and can potentially achieve going forward.

Of course this could all be said in hindsight to make himself sound better but Cameron said he knew when he took over the swing would be so big he didn't really expect to get a majority in that next term anyway.

Quite. I'm not sure if anything can be done to stop it, but it really doesn't sit right with me that a company can come in with vast amounts of venture capital, prepared to lose hundreds of millions a year so they can undercut existing operators and put them out of business in order to gain a monopoly.

That’s what Amazon did.

i think so yeah it was really weird watching them big up how amazing the perks their uber drivers will get now for pensions, holiday pay etc. especially seeing how recently they just pumped money fighting to keep their drivers on as self employed contractors in the states

i suspect they'll try some bullshit nonsense to keep costs down.  Such as only counting time actually on a job as working time and not counting the in-between periods.

Uber exists mainly because of the luddite attitude of the black cab and private hire industries had towards card payments and technology.

Bloody handy when abroad as well - book in your own language and not have to worry about it.

Just watching last nights Question Time..
The SNP minister getting tag teamed by Jess Phillip's and Ian Hislop is not something I ever expected to see.
Jess Phillips really is one of the most unprincipled politicians I have ever had the misfortune to meet. She'd sell her as soul to the devil to get elected.

Hislop is just a smug sexist public schoolboy.

I can't disagree with any of that.

Was amusing viewing none the less.

This.Phillips is a horrible human being, "working hard for my working class constituents - people like me", while socialising with Rees-fucking-Mogg.

She’s a mouthy, vacuous bint who gets far more publicity than she deserves.
