A neighbour's burgler alarm went off years back when the Waldheim thing was in the news. I went over to check it out and there was a youngish girl, about 17 on her own. Turned out she was an Austrian exchange student left alone in the house while the family were out. We turned off the alarm somehow and she said they don't have alarms in Austria as they don't have any criminals. When I said "What about Kurt Waldheim?" she said she meant real criminals. Haven't trusted them since.

I take it this happened well before Fritzl?

John Nicholson has topped the Private Members' Bill ballot, meaning he has first crack at bringing in a bill and talking about it at length on a Friday tbc.

Also in the top 7 (and so get the most time) are Eilidh Whiteford and Mhairi Black. Roger Mullen in there as well, but quite far down.

Vice has released a fly-on-the-wall documentary called Jeremy Corbyn: The Outsider. It only lasts thirty minutes, but, if you're interested in this sort of thing, it is definitely worth a watch. Some funny moments (depending on how you view them), but also some leaving a lot to be desired.

It doesn't paint Corbyn in a particularly favourable light; he comes across as paranoid, tired and cold. Looking in from the outside, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of camaraderie or trust between Corbyn and his team. His events organiser is the star of the show, providing some amusing lines - but not exactly exuding professionalism along the way.

That's not really surprising when the PLP is so overwhelmingly Red Tory than even his inner circle contains the likes of Tom Watson.

Politics is a funny business.

David Cameron led the Tories into a minority government in 2010 then a majority government in 2015 (albeit with a shambolic Labour Party).

Given this you'd think he was golden, but as a result of the EU Referendum campaign he's going to be in a very precarious position within his own party, even if the vote is Remain, and in an impossible position is the vote is Leave.

The fruits of success eh Dave?

Even within the last couple weeks, the swing of resentment towards Cameron within the party itself has been fairly staggering. Likewise with Osborne. Really don't know what happens after the vote, whichever way it goes.

People are very quick to forget that he defied all polls to lead the party to their first majority since 1992.

The issue of Europe destroying the Tory party, who would have thought it?!

It's about time the SNP went on the offensive against Davidson and eviscerated the Tory c**t. Her using the Liam Fee case as a political tool is below contempt.

She got it too easy in the election campaign. Its important that 'wee cuddly Ruth' is exposed for what she really is.

She didn't "use it as a political tool".

A news programme asked if the existence of an NPS would prevent cases like Liam Fee's in the future.

She responded to that question by pointing out, a claim still not rebutted by the Scottish Government, that Liam Fee would have had a NP under the Fife trial.

Making an observation as to the facts in response to political speculation is not "using it as a political tool".

Save your ammo for something she's actually done wrong.

I'm not surprising that you of all people are White Knighting Davidson. The sooner you are honest with yourself and join the Tories the better.

They have to keep the colony subdued somehow. The usual proud Scots will be delighted that people who were never elected in Scotland should be able to do this. As long as it's our glorious British masters imposing things on Scotland and its loyal Jocks and not faceless Eurocrats imposing things on our glorious British masters, all is good.

The Tooting by-election appears to have been forgotten about (understandably) after yesterday's events:

  • Dr Rosena Chantelle Allin-Khan (Labour Party) - 17,894 (55.9% +8.7%)
  • Dan Watkins (Conservative Party) - 11,537 (36.1% -5.8%)
  • Esther Dede Obiri-Darko (Green Party) - 830 (2.6% -1.5%)
  • Alexander James Glassbrook (Liberal Democrats) - 820 (2.6% -1.4%)
  • Elizabeth Eirwen Jones (UK Independence Party) - 507 (1.6% -1.3%)
  • Des Coke (Christian People's Party) - 164
  • Howling Laud Hope (The Official Monster Raving Loony Party) - 54
  • Graham Harry Moore (English Democrats Love England - Leave EU!) - 50
  • Dr Akbar Ali Malik (Immigrants Political Party) - 44
  • Ankit Love (One Love Party) - 32
  • Zirwa Javaid (Independent) - 30
  • Dr Zia Samadani (Independent) - 23
  • Bobby Smith (Give Me Back Elmo) - 9
  • Smiley Smillie (Independent) - 5

No real surprise about the main result, but another well earned public embarrassment for the FibDems losing to the Greens yet again in this seat.

Moreover from a 19% base in 2005 they have slid down to 15%, to 4%, to 3%, and now to 2.5.%.

The area has never been fertile territory for UKIP or any other "third party" outside of the FibDems, but that only a third of their support from the GE bothered to turn out this time ought to worry them here with the EU referendum only a week away. That said, the seat does appear to be polarising its vote around those tactically voting for whoever the Tory candidate is to try & kick them out the Labour one, and those wanting to ensure the latter stays in.

And finally before Zen Archer or Sgt Wilson says it, no there's never been a Tooting Popular Front candidate for the constituency, only regular Communist Party GB candidate from the same family in the 70s and a sole one of the Redgrave family for the Workers Revolutionary Party in 1983
