There's definitely a reason Unionist has been the preferred terminology in Ulster and to a lesser extent Scotland. The original Tories were pro-Jacobite while Unionism in NI and Scotland tends to be more of a legacy of the Whigs.

I’d suggest that a sad, lonely old drunk who openly admits to baiting folk on a football forum probably isn’t the raving success he pretends to be. Don’t you get enough abuse from literally everyone you interact with on a daily basis without having to slither online and troll for more?

At the polling stations, last night. Imagine being such a proud, outspoken Tory that your daily interactions with neighbours and other locals contribute to your party's candidate being on the wrong end of a 25% swing.

It's the equivalent of Brora beating Hearts in the Scottish Cup and then losing to Stranraer in the next round.

By elections are always more high profile than the same seat at a general election.

It is generally assumed that any seat will revert to the original party at the next election - and not just for Lib Dems.
