Detournement
The Guardian have changed the headline from 'shot down' to 'loses contact'. The Foreign Office must have had a word. -

The Russian defence ministry are saying themselves that it was shot down by the SAA. You should read beyond the headline next time. You might actually learn something.
williemillersmoustache
Dreadful news for people who want stricter controls on migration who claim they're not just racists.

They're actually blaming the Israelis for it if you read what they said. The Israeli pilots used the Russian plane as cover and set it up to be targeted by the Syrian air defense forces. As a consequence, the Il-20, which has radar cross-section much larger than the F-16, was shot down by an S-200 system missile,” the statement said, adding that 15 Russian military service members have died as a result. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.rt.com/news/438686-syria-russia-s200-il20/amp/ Edited September 18, 2018 by Jdog -

Londonwell
Was H_B a Tory on here before his latest reincarnation as a paranoid Corbynista? Or was he at least a Labour sympathiser pre break down? I can't remember.

Russia has been selling Syria loads of anti-aircraft equipment and in return they accidentally shoot down their planes. You can never discount the sheer incompetence of the SAA to be fair. Or was he at least a Labour sympathiser pre break down? I can't remember. His first incarnation spent it's entire time either obsessing over Supra or getting stuff hilariously wrong. I think he was Labour. The only two funny things he's ever done were relentlessly troll Eric Joyce, and own Oaksoft (that's a worrying indication of just how thick Oaksoft is tbh)
DeeTillEhDeh
Looks like Israel just shot down a Russian fighter jet over Syria, must be raging Al Qaeda are losing. I wonder what the spin will be here. ETA it looks like we're going with 'Syria accidentally shot it down' Even the Russians said it was the Syrians but can't directly blame them because they are seen as allies. Seems to be two points to the blaming the Israelis which looks to be utter nonsense. Firstly, that the Israeli jets used the radar signature of the Russian Ilyushin to mask their own signature - very doubtful given that the Israeli F-16s are a hare to the Ilyushin's tortoise. Secondly, that the Israelis only gave a minute's notice of the Israeli raid - given that the IAF has Russian-speaking air traffic controllers this should not have been a major issue - a minute is an eternity to manoeuver safely out of the way. What's odd is that the Syrians should have known the Russian plane was coming in irrespective of the Israelis bring there or not. Looks like a f**k up on the part of the Syrians which they and the Russians can't admit to for political reasons. No surprise that you jumped on it like a shot given your previous.

glasgow-sheep
I see the tories have succeeded in turning snp twitter against the greens by flipping their support on testing five year olds. Whether you agree with them or not the greens stuck to their manifesto. Tories have always supported (over) testing kids but spotted a chance to defeat the snp so chucked out any beliefs they had to score points, and then amazingly get away with it as folk (who know or care nothing about the policy other than snp always right) turn against the greens. Divide and conquer

They obviously have no ideas of their own so just run with whatever the closest civil servant suggests. -
