Blootoon87
Monaco's to lose now after PSG got beat 3-1 by Nice tonight. Looks like a head's gone from PSG, they had Thiago Motta and Di Maria sent off late on.
lanky_ffc
Big result tonight with PSG losing 3-1 away to Nice and finishing the game with 9 men in a complete heads gone. That's them 3 behind Monaco with 3 games to go (Monaco have 4). And if they fail to retain the title I'd imagine most will point to tonight as the game where they threw it away.

From the restart, Nice broke down the pitch and scored their 3rd. Di Maria was then sent off for a wild lunge. Glorious scenes tbh. Nightmare
Get it right up them. Highly unlikely but if Nice could take 2nd from them as well that would be even better.
Meatwad
The finish line is in sight in Ligue 2 and only one side has a clear path to promotion to the top flight. That team is Strasbourg, financial problems caused them no end of strife and seen them relegated in 2010 to the third tier and then removed from that due to insolvency a year later, despite a 4th placed finish. They've battled back and are bidding for a second consecutive promotion, which will be acheived if they defeat third placed Lens on Monday and results go their way. Outwith Strasbourg it's fairly bunched up with 4 points seperating Brest in 2nd place and Reims in 7th. The promotion/relegation system has changed in France this season for the three national divisions, two automatically promoted and one playoff place - changing from the usual three up and three down system. At the bottom, Laval are 4 adrift of the playoff place, second bottom Red Star [new haunt of Dundee United legend Guy Demel] - are 2nd bottom on goal difference and the playoff place is occupied by Orleans although they have Auxerre in 17th in their sights. lanky_ffc
Monaco and PSG both won comfortably at the weekend, so the gap remains at 3. Next up for PSG is a tricky away trip to St Etienne (who have only lost twice at home all season) while Monaco have Lille at home (who are 11th and have only beaten 3 teams in the top half). They can be crowned champions if they better PSG's result. Both games are 8PM on Sunday. Nice lost away at Marsielle to end their slim hopes of 2nd. They've already secured Champions League for next season and can be happy finishing as comfortably the 3rd best side. League table here - http://uk.soccerway.com/national/france/ligue-2/20162017/regular-season/r35875/ Laval are now relegated after Friday's results. Orleans are unlucky that Auxerre, who were utterly honking earlier on this season, have decided to start playing well. Like Strasbourg, Amiens (2nd) could achieve consecutive promotions. They're only 2 points behind Strasbourg along with 3rd placed and perennial yo-yo club, Troyes. Are you a fan of French football, Meatwad? The lower leagues are fascinating, especially when the DNCG get involved and try and relegate everyone (usually unsuccessfully).

Aye, it's surely a question of when not if for Monaco. If they don't/can't better PSG's result this weekend, they should clinch it next midweek at home to St Etienne.

Obviously, having a soft spot for Saint-Etienne, I hope that they win but I suspect that Monaco will clinch the Ligue 1 title against them.

St Etienne have only avoided defeat once away to a team above them.
senorsoupe
I don't follow French football too closely but I have a bit of a soft spot for Marseille. Partially because I really loved the food in Marseille when I visited! I sometimes cheer for football teams with my stomach!
Allan Jacobsen
As things stand, Monaco only need one more point to officially win the league. However, they have a significantly better goal difference than PSG so they've effectively won the league tonight. The league season ends next week and currently no teams have been relegated. From 20th-16th, Nancy, Bastia, Lorient, Caen and Dijon could all end up getting relegated or in the relegation playoff spot where they'd face third place in Ligue 2. Allan Jacobsen
Also in Ligue 2, despite having been a stick-on for promotion a couple of weeks ago, 2 draws in a row mean that Strasbourg are still not promoted. They remain top of the table but if they lose next week and other results go against them, they could potentially end up finishing 6th. Cearly, that means that 6 teams are still in with a chance of automatic promotion or going into a promotion/relegation playoff with the 18th placed team in Ligue 1. The six teams are (from 1st to 6th): Strasbourg, Amiens, Troyes, Lens, Brest and Nimes. 3 points separate them. It's between Red Star and Orleans for the final relegation spot. Orleans are ahead of Red Star by 2 points so Red Star need to win to have any chance of avoiding automatic relegation. At best, they can finish in the relegation playoff spot. However, if Orleans were to beat Le Havre and Auxerre could only draw with Red Star then Orleans would be safe on goal difference and Auxerre would go into the relegation playoff spot where they would face the third placed team in Championnat National. Red Star would be relegated in this scenario. The two promotion spots are already sorted in National with Quevilly-Rouen and Chateauroux going up. Third place is between Dunkerque, Chambly, Paris, Consolat Marseille and Lyon Duchere. Could potentially end up with Red Star v Paris to decide promotion/relegation. That'd be interesting. lanky_ffc
A 4-0 stroll for Monaco leaves them needing 1 point to clinch the title. PSG won 5-0 away at St Etienne, but that's just delaying the inevitable IMO.
Allan Jacobsen
Monaco have +73, PSG +56 - that isn't getting overturned.

thekorean
Ligue 1 champions are not even French per se.
Allan Jacobsen
In National, Chateauroux drew 1-1 with Les Herbiers to win the league as Quevilly-Rouen could only lose 4-0 to Chambly. With Dunkerque only managing to draw 3-3 against Boulogne, Paris overtook them for third place with a 2-0 win over local rivals Creteil. The final games in Ligue 2 kick off at 7:30 tonight with promotion and relegation (bar relegated Laval) to be decided. Could end up with a Parisian derby between Red Star and Paris FC to decide if Red Star stay in Ligue 2 or if Paris take their place. *edit* Quevilly-Rouen got promoted to Championnat National from CFA last season so they've had two consecutive promotions. Allan Jacobsen
Half-time in Ligue 2: Currently, Strasbourg are going up as champions along with Amiens. Lens facing 18th in Ligue 1. Red Star joining Laval in Championnat National next season. Orleans facing Paris in the promotion/relegation playoff.
