The Overpriced Mercenary Leagues Thread

China seems to have came through as the new league of choice for Brazilians who fancy a quick buck. Tianjin Quanjin of the second division put up a €20 million transfer fee with weekly salary of about €280000. Which he declined for Alexandre Pato, Luiz Adriano has also recently declined to go to China and escape his Milan hell.

This isn't just failed stars, Renato Augusto has over 100 appearances for Leverkusen but turned down Schalke to go to Beijing. Ramires is in negotiations with a 20 odd million move, Gervinho has just moved and Cheik Tiote, it turns out is still alive and could be going to Shanghai.

All Yer classic mercenary globe trotting coaches are here: Big Phil Scolari, Sven, Alberto Zacheronni and Dan Petrescu

Most of these clubs are owned by state owned industries siphoning off funds instead of bog standard oil sheikhs

In addition Chinese companies are coming over here now. Today Ledman started sponsoring the Portuguese second tier with the condition that they have to play 10 Chinese players and bring in Chinese coaches. A sponsorship agreement that even Neil Doncaster thinks is a shocker of a deal.

However whether these guys stick around is another question, Robinho is heading back to Brazil after 9 games, Drogba and Anelka both bolted after not getting paid. That combined with the ridiculous air conditions, and the abysmal standard of football. It still isn't the retirement league of choice for legends and greedy South Americans yet.

Keep all your mercenary league news here pls.

It's ridiculous having a league with diddies such as Pato, Luiz Adriano, Augusto, Gervinho, Ramires playing against talent such as Maurice Ross and Derek Riorden.

Is it China that Ramires is off to?

Yep £25 Million to Jiansu Suning,

Incidentally the opposite to these leagues is the Indian Super League which features all the flawed geniuses of our times such as Adrian Mutu, Tuncay, Helder Postiga and Roger Johnson with coaching from David Platt and Nicolas Anelka.

It's the best for the 'oh they are still playing' leagues. The players too rough for the MLS.

Brazil to China, there's a culture shock. Being slightly ignorant to it all, where have they got all their money from?

There has been a history of Brazillians going to Japan and Korea (albeit not any major stars) and the likes of Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos and Ronaldinho have had lengthy retirement tours in various wealthy leagues like Russia, Turkey and Uzbekistan. They'll travel if the money's right and work permits for England are going to be a hassle if you are the 10th choice CAM.

Large state owned companies mainly, who obviously due to the way things have shaken out in the communist party have a rather large amount of money to fling about.

Fair enough. Wonder how long it will be before the next Scottish player ends up there. My money will be on Ross McCormack.

Not Scottish but Ryan McGowan returned for a £300000 transfer fee and no doubt a good wedge in his pocket.

Fredy Guarin has joined Shanghai for €13 million from Inter Milan. Pretty big decision for a current Colombian international to make.

Makes you wonder. Would you rather earn £60k a week and remain at an elite club with International chances or £120k a week but effectively retired
