Off topic a bit

The Arbuthnott name must have originated from some ancestor who couldn't speak properly, maybe face down in the puddle type drunk at the time, who knows? This ancestor maybe trying to describe where he lived to some official collecting names of the local populous 700 years or so ago. 'Some where near Arbroath but not' probably came out as ''gurgle...Arrr..buuuth gurgle.... nnnnot.. gurgle''.

True story? :)

An interesting theory right enough.

An alternative one would be that the Arbuthnott ancestors came from the village of Arbuthnott just a bit up the road, nr Inverbervie. (Of Lewis Grassic Gibbon fame)

The nameless settlement just got its name right there at that point. True Story. ;)
