It was the SFA who decided the game was to be at Hamilton.

I wouldn't have thought that the SFA had the power to do that. Surely it is up to the home club to make suitable arrangements if their ground was deemed unsuitable for the visit of Celtic.

Normally it would have been at K-Park, but (to paraphrase the SFA statement from last week) the police view was that this couldn't be done safely and securely and the SFA concurred... Obviously the concern, with only a few hundred home tickets and about one hundred away, could be ticketless fans trying to watch from surrounding areas or break-in.

At that point, the rules kick in - a game unable to be played at the drawn venue goes to the "nearest registered ground of at least equivalent capacity which is most suitable" which in fairness to the SFA is New Douglas Park: except that they appear to have neglected to confirm that NDP was actually available, which is a pretty obvious prerequisite of being "suitable"...

It isn't just EK's gig to tout about.

Even if we're assuming that every other club would make their ground available - it may be that some/all with grass parks are 'unsuitable' as they have games the day before. This applies (in order of proximity) to Motherwell, Hampden and Ibrox - and also to BSCG and Albion Rovers which would likely fail on safety grounds too. That said Hampden has hosted 2 games in 2 days before... After that you'd be looking at Airdrie, Partick and Cumbernauld?

This must be a first.

Sorry to correct you HJ. Hampden is closest 7.7 miles, Fir Park is 11.2 miles (according to Google Maps).

Hampden holds the semi finals over two consecutive days anyway although not in February.

It has done though if Rangers and celtic have been drawn in different league cup semis.

Surely it's east Kilbride who have made a mistake?

EK said that they hadn't been consulted before the announcement had been made that NDP was the venue. Desperately poor from the SFA. Having (oops!) forgotten to talk to Accies and EK, wonder if they had a word with Celtic beforehand.

Or vice versa?
