Stranraer v Ayr 2/1/1)

Recommended Posts

Even with the players we had out missing we SHOULD be good enough to see off a Brian Reid Stranraer team, just looking at the teamsheets we lookd the better team.

However we really struggle without one of Adams or Docherty in there, forget about the rest of the injured players as they are replaceable, but we don't have anyone to come in when both of them are injured. Gilmour, Crawford or Stevo would look much better having etiher beside them. For me those 3 aren't the best defensively, with Crawford the best of the bunch in that capacity, but without someone else putting in the tackles he tends to try and over compensate and ends up looking like a headless chicken. Gilmour can control a game and spray nice passes about, if he has someone to win the ball for him, and the same with Stevo he's at his best going forward, and you can see why he has been used more as a forward than a midfielder at a higher level.

Don't get the Reid stick from Ayr fans, easily the most successful manager since Ally when you consider the amount of cash he had compared to Dalziel.

As for the game, we were comprehensively beaten and it could and should have been more than 1-0 to the home side.

Wasn't meant as stick for Brian Reid, who i think is a mediocre manager, I was more referring to the fact that it wasn't a steve aitken stranraer team which has been completely different to the team we faced last week

On watching highlights, Stranraer had a good grip of the game deserved more than 1-0, and on paper Ayr team not weak by any means.

I think some are getting caught up with Jim White on Transfer day, this is Scottish League 1,not the EPL.

Gibson signs an 18 month contract in front of the Sky Sports cameras at training tonight.

Liam Rowan has contract terminated.

Liam Dick had loan extended until the end of the season.

The one up front who's name I can't spell has contract extended.

Everyone talks about Brian Reid and the two promotions at Ayr , what about the two relegations at Ayr ?? Surely both cancel each other out, no great achievement to get promoted and then fail miserably the following season , twice ....

I'm not sure what your point is.

You seem to be pointing out that Reid want great for ayr but that's a helluva obvious statement to make.

Brian Reid is not generally well liked (now or at the time) by ayr fans. One almighty shitfest at hampden pretty much sealed his fate.

The fact that the guys before him and the guy after him were worse is not enough to get him off the hook.

It sums up large sections of our support well, that Reid is disliked for getting us to within minutes of a national cup final with a part time side, a massive achievement. No one complained when we beat other SPL teams with the exact same tactics.

Exactly. People crying that we used the same tactics that had beaten better teams in earlier rounds and got us within 7 mins of the lottery of penalties, and saying we should have gone out and attacked a much better team with players that would have taken us apart, are idiots.

This, we could have left Hampden that day with a tanking of a score line against us. The 2 relegations don't really matter here. Reid was successful at this level and unsuccessful at the level above. He should make Stranraer competitive in League 1, but that's all they'll do. A Brechin/Forfar type club. Aitken was Stranraers opportunity to go up and once he jumped ship, that was that.
